🇬🇧 Savouring the world - Pé de moleque (Brazil)

Today I will tell you about a recipe for a typically Brazilian dessert that you can make at home anywhere in the world. Today I present to you the pé de moleque, a dessert that is easily found in Brazil during the June holidays. There are industrialised versions in the country, but the more handcrafted version is better.

Ingredients:

6 cups of tea of / sugar

4 cups of tea of / milk

1 teaspoon of / baking soda

1 deep plate of / roasted and ground peanuts

* Before the bar / is the quantity and after, the ingredient.

Directions:

Bring everything to a boil, stirring constantly so that it does not stick to the pan. When it is ready, pour it on the greased marble and when it has cooled, cut it.

Tip: Instead of pouring everything on the marble, spoon the already separated candies, so you don't have to cut.

Have you ever tried a pè de moleque? Did you make it at home? Did you think it was so easy to prepare?  Do you like it?

It's a good option to always have dessert available at home and, for Brazilians overseas, a way to always have a taste of Brazil at your fingertips. I love. I hope you like it too.

Ingredientes:

6 xícaras de chá de /açúcar

4 xícaras de chá de /leite

1 colherzinha de café de /bicarbonato de sódio

1 prato fundo de /amendoim torrado e moído

* Antes da / é a quantidade e depois dela, o ingrediente.

Gosta do doce?

Adoro. Espero que você goste também.

🇬🇧 Reflections on diversity in fashion

Lately there is so much talk about diversity in fashion as if it didn't exist before. And this is a big lie.

I've been in the fashion industry for 40 years and there have always been brands that make bespoke suits. As a teenager I never found bikinis that fit me in regular stores, because at the time they only sold panties and top together, the same size, and I was wearing medium size panties and a small size top. But I discovered a shop, right there in my hometown, a city that was anything but cosmopolitan, which produced bespoke bikinis. Fortunately, in adult life, this size difference has disappeared and I can easily buy bikinis. But thirty years ago I was able to do it. And it's no different with clothes. I worked in more than one atelier that made bespoke clothes. I myself have worked creating and producing bespoke clothes and accessories with my signature at various points in my career.

There has never been an imposition of thinness by the media. Or any kind of imposition of a "beauty standard". Psychology explains this feeling that some have of imposition. Surely, those who think this are under pressure from other means, such as requests from family members, bullying, etc., and begin to pay attention and see how beautiful and attractive only those who are different from you in the media and outside of it.

Can you list ten celebrities with similar bodies to yours?  How are these celebrities viewed by the general public? It is not to repeat the point of view of those who criticise you! Use the comments to share your answers.

The importance of having the advice of a stylist who knows the fashion market well, the image as a communication tool, doses of psychology, among other important knowledge, is to have access to things that you would never have imagined existed and to use the knowledge of the professional to enhance your unique beauty. It is having a teacher to guide your journey in this universe of style and non-verbal communication. And the masters are important in the improvement process. In the case of public people, this is even more important so that what you say does not contradict your appearance by causing communication noise, among other things which can vary depending on the person's profession. My image work is totally personalised, without saying that your style has this or that name, which is why I rarely publish advice on the subject here, because experience has made me understand that people with less experience than me in the market or those who are not professionally related to the fashion industry misinterpret this type of information. I only share what is applicable to any specific person or group, things that are less likely to be misrepresented by ignorance. And that will only be misrepresented by people who aren't my target audience.

🇬🇧 Typical European Dishes - Northern Europe

We begin the last continent of our gastronomic journey around the world. Let's go to the old continent, Europe. I will continue to speak by regions to help you plan your trip or move abroad thinking about gastronomic affinities. I'll start with Northern Europe, my favourite part of the continent at the moment (it's so different from Brazil that I love to research the region, discover artists, learn more about the culture and everything in between).

🇬🇧 Two types of “nomads”

I was asked why many Italians who decide to live abroad return to Italy. My reflection is valid for anyone who makes this decision, whether Italian or not. What do you think? Share your opinion and experience with me.

Many people decide to live in another city or abroad to study and then return home. They never wanted to leave, to live different experiences. As a friend of mine says, they left their hometown, but the hometown didn't leave them. The mindset has not changed.

Many Italians left Italy to have a better life in Brazil and did not return to Italy. They really wanted to start a new life abroad. And the same goes for anyone with an open mind. They don't want to stay in the same place all their lives, with the same friendships, with the same opinions, etc. True friendships remain friends no matter where we live. Nowadays this is much easier than when I moved to another city for the first time, because we have the internet. In 1998 I chatted with friends sending letters ✉️😅

Getting to know different places as a tourist is very different from getting to know other places by living there, working there, discovering new cultures, learning new languages on the spot… but it takes courage. Courage to be himself instead of being a mama's boy, who follows everything his mother says...

As having this courage is not common, most stay where they were born or live abroad for a while and then come back.

I have this courage inherited from my paternal family and polished with my own effort. An ancestor of mine left Lucca in Italy in the 18th century and went to Portugal. After that, the family was invited by the Emperor to occupy a position of trust in Brazil (this is the part of the Versiani family history that I know). And here we are! I left my hometown in 1998 and moved several times afterwards. I do not want to go back. Maybe I'm a little like that ancestor from Lucca, always wanting to move on.

This is the big difference. Many people today claim to be open-minded, but they have never allowed themselves to live in culturally different places, away from their parents and family, discovering different ways of living. As I have already told here about people who call themselves "eclectic" because they listen to pop rock, samba and other popular musical rhythms in Brazil, but have never heard classical music, metal (apart from popular bands like Iron Maiden and Metallica) and have never seen an opera show. They have a lot to learn.

Are you part of the group that is always moving forward, living in different places without returning to the place of origin? Or the group that lives abroad and comes back? Or are you still part of the group that never lived outside your hometown?

🇬🇧 5 tips to deal with homesickness

Let's talk about how to deal with homesickness when we move. This is one of the most common themes among expatriates, especially those who have not lived the experience of living far from their family before, and also people who move to another city (and not a country) without their family, to take advantage of a professional opportunity, to study, because they married someone who lives far away or for any other reason.

In my more than twenty years of experience moving from city to city a few times, a few choices have helped me a lot to not suffer from this problem. Here I share some. Before, I explain to those who are new here that the first time I moved to another city was in 1998 to study advertising in Uberlândia and I only went to my hometown on long holidays and college vacations. I've already told other details of this experience in another text on the website that you can read later. And I've also mentioned the other cities in previous texts.

  1. Discover the new city, get to know the neighbourhood, learn the language if you are in another country, take courses, understand the local culture, discover local artists, make friends, etc. In Porto Alegre I spent 8 months going out alone because I didn't know anyone but my MBA colleagues who had a different lifestyle than mine. Or maybe I didn't give them much openness to ask me out for pizza, wine, and small talk. Who knows? But I survived and had a lot of fun, even alone. Here on the site there are several texts to inspire you to go out alone too.
  2. To fulfill the previous point, the first time I moved I chose to speak as little as possible with the family over the phone (usually once a week to deal only with what was necessary). At that time I didn't use the internet and my family didn't either, so the phone was the main form of communication. You can do the same with email, Whatsapp, social media and whatever else you want. Any friend or family member who respects you will understand that you are more absent because you need time to live this new life. It is worth mentioning that when I returned to my hometown I acted normally, aware that it was no longer my place.
  3. I talk a lot about dogs and cats here on the site. Dogs are great partners in meeting people! Even in Curitiba, which has a reputation for being a city of cold people, walking with Hercules I met a lot of people from the neighbourhood. Because, with the exception of those tutors who don't even expect the dog to pee on the post I mentioned in the text about observing your dog's limits, everyone else ends up interacting with other dog tutors while walking their four-legged companions. Before Hercules I didn't have this opening.
  4. Be authentic. If you are not authentic away from the family, where will you be? Yes, the ideal is to be authentic in front of the family too. When we try to be authentic, we attract people who like us for who we are. I already said that I went out alone for 8 months in Porto Alegre, right? Maybe this is common where you live. It may be impossible for a woman to do this where you live. In Brazil it is allowed, but many women are uncomfortable with it. I learned little by little, still in Uberlândia, to get used to the idea, and in Porto Alegre I was very comfortable with that. And other women can also allow themselves this experience and many others that frighten them for being different from what they are used to. The same goes for men.
  5. To improve on the previous point, see a psychologist and also practice meditation to practice self-knowledge, observe your thoughts, overcome your fears and limiting beliefs. I read a lot about psychology, studied a little bit about it in college, I love philosophy and mythology, and putting it all together with meditation and psychologists at times when I had clear in my mind what was bothering me worked well for me. In moments that lacked this clarity on my part, psychologists did not help me.

Hope you enjoyed the tips. If you have plans to move to another city or country and want more personalised tips, get to know and contract the “The Nomad Advisor” service here on the website.
