We can move from a place to another for various reasons. One of them is to know better other cultures, to become a global citizen. Other is ...

🇬🇧 7 Days in Brazil. Destinations to try.

For those who have never traveled in Brazil or for foreigners who do not know Brazil, today two travel itineraries for a week in the country are suggested. Since Rio de Janeiro is too cliché, I excluded the city from the itinerary. But if you're traveling longer, include it, because the city is truly gorgeous and worth a visit.

First script suggestion:

2 days in Sao Paulo, staying near Ibirapuera Park or Paulista Avenue. 1 day in Belo Horizonte. 1 day in Ouro Preto which is very close to BH. And 2 days in Salvador. You will see different profiles of big cities, beach and historic city. As it includes a beach in the northeastern region, I recommend this itinerary during the Brazilian summer (December to February).

The other I would say to go to Sao Paulo (2 days, as in the previous suggestion), 1 day in Porto Alegre, 4 days in Serra Gaúcha, being 1 in Gramado, 1 in Canela, 1 in Bento Gonçalves and 1 in Garibaldi. This is a trip to be enjoyed in the winter (June). And be prepared for cold near zero degrees Celsius, even if snow is unlikely. It is a more cultural and gastronomic itinerary, with 2 big cities and 4 pretty towns.

Both routes can be enriched with visits to good restaurants, as good food is not lacking in both routes.

For Brazilians who have never visited the south, and also for foreigners accustomed to the idea of tropical Brazil, the second itinerary may surprise you, not only for the cold.

Quentão, a typical winter drink, in the south is made with wine, and is delicious. If you meet someone from Rio Grande do Sul on the Internet and will meet them on the tour, ask them to prepare a chimarrão, which is also a mandatory experience. I have lived in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul for 4 years and still don't know how to prepare. I drank only the ones prepared by other people. Drink it all and don't move that metal straw like you're drinking juice, because gauchos hate it when people do. In the south there is also a type of typical bread, which we can easily find in the bakeries and supermarkets of the region called cuca. It's worth a try because I've never seen it in the rest of Brazil. I really like guava cucas, but I haven't found them in Curitiba. The ones I see here are always made of crumbs.

And, if you plan to eat acarajé, my favorite Brazilian food, typical of Bahia and perhaps easy to find in Salvador, but also possible in São Paulo and Porto Alegre (at Redenção brique on Sundays!), know that "spicy" means with pepper. I ask you to put in just a little, because Bahians usually use chilli. I like pepper, but I like to taste the other ingredients.

Keep following the magazine's social media profiles for more travel, gastronomy, culture and other tips. By reading the previous texts you can get some other suggestions for both scripts that I have suggested to you in this text. When companies contribute, I can make very complete itineraries for short trips in Brazil - and also in other countries - with a complete guide on where to sleep, where to eat, what places to visit, etc. according to what is interesting for people. who want to travel to appreciate culture, gastronomy, art, etc.

Vale provar porque no resto do Brasil nunca vi.

🇬🇧 The fallacy of fat phobia in the fashion industry

I've already talked about why catwalk models are traditionally tall and thin. The media has been shamefully spreading disinformation, and I'm going to explain today the big lie about fat phobia in fashion. It's a lie because whoever maintains that this exists must never have studied pattern making and expansion of patterns, just to stick to a point that would give a lot of clarity about reality.

As I said in another text, the larger the size a person wears, the greater the differences between physical types. Therefore, even the plus size models that we currently see in the fashion shows of big brands are women with rectangular physiques or wide hourglasses. Women without a prominent belly. Not every fat person who wears the same pieces they wore in the shows will have the same result. And I'm not even going to address personal colour differences here. It's just a magazine article, not a master's thesis.

Fashion was never prejudiced with sizes. There is, of course, the target audience for each brand. Some clothes do not look good on someone who is obese. Some don't look good on anyone with localised fat. Some are not suitable for women with large busts and others are horrible for those with small busts. Some pieces fit better on short people and others only look good on tall people. And so on. There are always a variety of options that suit different body types. It takes common sense and/or a good stylist to know what to avoid and what to buy.

Many brands produce bespoke clothes, precisely because of the awareness of the differences in physical types. Of course, bespoke clothes are more expensive. They are made to fit YOUR body perfectly. I have several bespoke pieces and I guarantee they are usually worth every penny. I'm not talking about pieces made by neighbourhood seamstresses, who don't understand the world of fashion and don't create anything relevant. What I recommend is above that.

The big question is: only those who have a reasonable self-esteem invest in tailored clothes. The same goes for investing to have a good stylist. Those who do not consider themselves deserving of the best are waiting for cheap brands to make clothes in large sizes. If the fit of cheap brands on thin people is already horrible, on fat people it would tend to be much worse. Oversize pattern making is not something that anyone master.

Do you want to dress well without having to diet or surgery to have a suitable weight for your height? The way is to pay the price to have a good stylist and bespoke clothing by professionals competent in producing bespoke plus size clothing. In fact, this is the best way for anyone, regardless of height, weight or where in the world they live.

🇬🇧 How to calculate cost of living in another city

Some websites have approximate cost of living information of different cities around the world. This text aims to guide you to calculate your cost of living when you decide to live in another city or country. That's because the cost of living varies depending on your lifestyle.

You should research, about the place where you want to live:

    • Housing cost. Rent, condominium, and other fees for housing. Also power, internet and telephone.
    • Food costs. Cost of a full restaurant meal is a starting basis. Of course if you cook at home your cost will be lower, but a tourist can easily get a sense of the prices of good restaurants to calculate the monthly expense of eating this way, but it will be more difficult to calculate the price of a complete purchase at the supermarket before living in that place. Calculating on the basis of prices of restaurants that you consider good has the advantage of, after the move, it allows you to have a small capital surplus if you choose to make your own food.
    • Transportation costs. Whether public transport costs or costs for owning and maintaining a car.
    • Costs with fees and taxes.
    • Leisure costs. Here you exclude the option of dining out because it is already part of the food calculation. But it includes costs in bars, cinema, travel, theatre, museums, clubs, sports practices, etc.
    • Service costs. Here it depends on which services you use. Think about banks, courses, subscriptions (TV, magazines, etc), health, personal services (stylist, driver, masseuse, beautician, hairdresser, housekeeper, cook, etc), etc. that have not been included in the other categories.
    • Other costs. Think about the costs you have today and don't fall into the above categories. For example: I have cats. I must include the costs with them in my planning.
