🇬🇧 The “big yorkshire”

Yesterday when I went out for dinner I met a couple with a black dog that reminded me of Hercules, my last dog, but it had a narrower body and a longer snout. Since I like dogs, I asked if it was a Lhasa Apso, knowing it wasn't, but I couldn't mentally identify the dog's breed, if it had one. She said it was a "big yorkshire" . I explained that I found him similar to mine, which was a Lhasa, and also to the skye terrier breed, which is from the same group as the Yorkshire (Terrier), but bigger, and is a breed that I always wanted to have and in Brazil I never found a breeder. When she said yorkshire luckily she couldn't see my face as I was playing with the dog, because there is no such thing as an all black yorkshire and it was too big to be that breed (my facial expression would give away what I thought). Maybe she bought it like a yorkshire, without researching the breed standard (there are breeders who only care about the money, not respecting the breed s...

🇬🇧 The importance of choosing the right underwear

This is a text about the importance of choosing the right underwear for anyone, and the negative impact that a bad choice has on your personal image. I'm Nycka, I work as a stylist, visual artist and fine art photographer. From the works I chose to do, you can see how much I care about beauty. Yes, I value content too. I believe that beauty and content must go together. The personal image is a non-verbal communication tool and therefore any choice related to it should be made strategically and with qualified professional guidance. Badly chosen lingerie draws more attention than clothes, in any situation and any environment. Lingerie that is too tight ends up destroying the natural shape of the body and creating ugly volumes in specific points. It can also cause pain and other negative health consequences. A bra that is too big will not stay in place and do its job. The wrong bra design can offer less support than necessary, cause shoulder pain, not stay in place, or show thr...

🇬🇧 A special portrait

What is a portrait in fine art photography? I'm Nycka, a specialist in colours, shapes and textures as non-verbal communication tools, and I work as a stylist, photographer and visual artist. In my work, a portrait is not just any photograph, a simple image of the subject. The portrait is a work of art, the result of a creative design that takes into account the personality of the portrait, but is not limited to this and can also show something very different from that personality. A shy young woman, who doesn't even wear makeup on a daily basis, can be portrayed as a sensual, decisive and powerful woman, for example. Or as a fictional character. And many other options. According to her preferences. My portraits and photo shoots are invitations to the imagination, and to look for something in the subject that is not obvious, a different version of what everyone sees every day. There are no limits to the possibilities of a portrait. My benchmark for what makes a good portrait...

🌍 Ungaro Fall/Winter 2023/24

In this text, I'm going to talk about Ungaro's fall/winter 2023/24 women's collection from the point of view of personal image as a non-verbal communication tool and with a lot of influence from my personal taste, which doesn't show up in style consultancy. Ungaro used standard skinny models, and I love seeing shows and campaigns like this because it makes it easier to identify which body types the clothes fit best. The cuts are almost always enhancing the feminine silhouette. Most of the pieces are plain, in cuts designed for women with a a few body types. The brand works with a variety of textures, ranging from pieces covered in sequins and velvet pieces, from lace to fluid fabrics and many pleated pieces. My masculine, practical side doesn't like pleats or sequins all over. Of this season's collections that I've seen so far, it's the most colourful, with a colour palette that features shades of black, white, grey, pink, purple and blue. Mostly col...

🌍 Schiaparelli Fall/Winter 2023 (prêt-à-porter)

Today is the day to talk about Schiaparelli's fall/winter 2023 prêt-à-porter collection show, presenting what I liked and didn't like about the collection. If you fell by parachute here, I warn you that this text is from the point of view of personal style as a non-verbal communication tool, with many doses of personal opinion that do not exist in my style consultancy, because the objective of the text is not do free consultation. The brand chose to show only thin models, and has clothes for all body types. You may not be able to tell which pieces best suit your body type, but I see it even better in thin models than in plus size ones, because the clothes are in evidence. And that's the purpose of the models. The colour palette for the show was shades of black, white, brown, gold and blue. They also had some red bags to break the chromatic monotony. I've talked several times here on the blog about neutral colours. Research or hire a consultancy. The worst mistake I s...

🌍 What’s the value of professional photography?

In a world where everyone has a camera, even a cell phone camera, what is the value of professional photography? I could have followed paths like event photography, which I experimented with for a while, and it was an interesting challenge, but I opted for fine art photography, because it requires different preparation and preparation that I had in college. Currently, an effect (many people call it a filter) called “Bold Glamor” is viral on tiktok. So far, everyone I've seen using it could look very similar to what the effect shows just by using makeup and the proper lighting. I am a person who rarely wears full makeup. I usually wear lipstick and eyeliner, and nothing else. I have never used false eyelashes. And what attracts me most about photography is this possibility of transforming ordinary people into people with an impressive appearance, which many celebrities do not have. I look for ways to value the unique beauty of each client. My aim is always the extraordinary. Those...

🌍 9 Signs that a company belongs to my universe and should know my work

Below I list 9 signs that a company belongs to my universe, and that it could be interesting for it to hire my services and/or sponsor my work. The company has a final target audience with high purchasing power. The company sells an image of creativity or has clear differentials. The company and its leaders know that images with a white/monochromatic background, lookbook style, are ineffective in reaching an audience with high purchasing power or that consumes creative or innovative products and services. Images with a white/monochrome background do not generate connection with the brand and are a sign that the brand is playing cheap. The company and its leaders are aware that communication, including non-verbal communication, must be consistent with the brand image and the profile of the target audience. The company and its leaders know that the photographer's repertoire and training are important for the final result. The company and its leaders are aware that art is made...

🌍 About being naked in front of the camera

Allowing yourself to be photographed naked is an act of self-love. And also intimacy with you and self-acceptance. You don't need to have a perfect body, because the perfect body is different in everyone's mind. What you consider imperfection can be very attractive to some people. And your vision of perfection may seem like an aberration to someone else. When you observe real people, of different physical types and perceive the beauty in each one of them, you are able to see yours. When you don't see your beauty, maybe the photographer's point of view is able to reveal it. But to know the photographer's point of view you need to accept yourself and allow yourself to live the experience of discovering your beauty through the lenses of a professional. When you are intimate with your body, you appreciate it and respect it. Some cultures and some people sexualise nudity. They have a moral code that nudity is only accepted in a sexual context, or while bathing. But e...

🇬🇧 Exalt your beauty

I believe that everyone has their beauty, and when I photographed events I always said that no one appeared ugly in my photos. Precisely because I seek the beauty of people. When deciding to work with fine art photography, including portraits and commissioned photo essays, I seek to offer clients the chance to record the best of their beauty. A natural best, with a minimum of cosmetic edits, seeking a sustainable result, if the person wants to maintain the Diva effect on a daily basis, but at the same time a fascinating result, which impresses those who see the photos, which makes the client remember daily how much it is a beautiful person. Your best gift awaits you on the available services page. Exalt your beauty. There are many ways to do this and I know the best ones. Nycka the Nomad

🇬🇧 A photographer is NOT someone who captures the moment

Contrary to what some people think, a photographer is not someone who captures the moment . Amateur photographers capture the moment. I create images designed to make a certain impact. There is a whole production behind each photo shoot and each portrait produced by me nowadays. Amateur photographers also don't have much idea of their costs, and before definitely deciding to go down this path I carefully analyzed mine. Fine art photography relies on the photographer's repertoire to construct unique and meaningful images. I look for beauty in all people and also in things and places that are not always appreciated by the majority. And if I worked for many years with style consultancy, it was to contribute, with my experience, for more people to reveal and value the beauty they have. And I also learned a lot about low self-esteem, and how people with this trait sabotage themselves. So I'm not shy about making clear things like my choice not to edit skin and hair to make the...

🇬🇧 Wedding photography

After sharing my suggestions for preparing for a boudoir shoot or fine art nude photo shoot I now share my suggestions on how to prepare for a fine art wedding photography shoot . This text concerns my way of working at the time of its publication. As I am always evolving, learning and improving, the most important guidelines are those given to each client in the interview prior to the photo shoot. There are different ways to register a marriage. I usually work with artistic photography of the couple outside the ceremony environment. This can be negotiated to include documentary recording of the ceremony. I avoid a common documentary record because in every wedding ceremony nowadays there are hundreds of people with their cell phones doing this. This interferes with the photographer's work, as these people are more concerned with photographing than with experiencing the emotion of the moment. What makes wedding photographs and other events beautiful are emotions. And often guest...

🇬🇧 Suggestions for preparing for a boudoir or fine art nude photo shoot

Nobody likes to look ugly in photos, and with little or no clothes the challenge can be great for some people, but it is possible to have good results, even without having a model body. It is also possible to have bad results even with a perfect body, if you neglect some precautions. See my suggestions for preparing for a boudoir or fine art nude photo shoot by me. Recommendations aimed at the result you are looking for and your profile are offered in the online meeting I have with clients before photoshoots to plan how to do each one. I warn that I work to value the beauty of each client, but I do not invent beauty where the client sabotages himself/herself, such as poorly cared skin or very damaged hair. I don't do skin and hair editing to correct what the client doesn't want to seek a definitive solution to solve. Unlike commercial photographers who sometimes make models unrecognisable through editing, I look for the real beauty of each person, and I mainly explore makeup a...

🇬🇧 Precious tips for brides

This text has precious tips for brides. My frame of reference is essentially Western. My knowledge of dress and grooming traditions relating to oriental weddings is very shallow, so I won't go into them here. In principle, I do not recommend wearing a white dress, although this is a strong Catholic tradition. Not even a black dress, also traditional in some regions. The first big moment of the wedding ceremony is the bride's entrance. She's the centre of attention, and obviously her makeup, how she's styled her hair, and everything she's wearing, especially her dress. When the bride chooses her own dress, if she has healthy self-esteem and emotional maturity, desirable qualities in someone who is going to start a family, the only reason that justifies getting married choosing the colour and model of the dress just because it is what everyone else wears, or because she thinks the colour is beautiful, is ignorance. A wedding is usually a time when the investment fo...
