🇬🇧 A special portrait

What is a portrait in fine art photography?

I'm Nycka, a specialist in colours, shapes and textures as non-verbal communication tools, and I work as a stylist, photographer and visual artist.

In my work, a portrait is not just any photograph, a simple image of the subject. The portrait is a work of art, the result of a creative design that takes into account the personality of the portrait, but is not limited to this and can also show something very different from that personality. A shy young woman, who doesn't even wear makeup on a daily basis, can be portrayed as a sensual, decisive and powerful woman, for example. Or as a fictional character. And many other options. According to her preferences. My portraits and photo shoots are invitations to the imagination, and to look for something in the subject that is not obvious, a different version of what everyone sees every day.

There are no limits to the possibilities of a portrait. My benchmark for what makes a good portrait is an image of an individual, which could decorate any tasteful person's living room or bedroom, including the person portrayed.

A portrait (photographed by me) does not capture a moment. Immortalise my artistic vision in relation to the person photographed. Most of the time I try to enhance the aspect of the person portrayed, but if creativity requires it and the client accepts it, I can take pictures so that his/her appearance is just a background for some idea, some concept.

Perhaps I can summarise the description of what a portrait made by me is by saying that it is how I would see the client in a dream. And you know that in dreams the possibilities are endless. And since I'm looking for results that are beautiful and have something unusual about them, that's perhaps the best possible description.

Can the customer make suggestions? Yes, he or she can, and I'll take those suggestions into consideration. In the meeting that precedes the photo shoot, (s)he can give all the suggestions (s)he wants, respecting the profile of the contracted service. If (s)he has asked for a portrait, for example, and (s)he makes several suggestions, I can create an image that combines some of those suggestions or pick one and focus on it. The end result will always be my interpretation, for two reasons. I'm not in the client's head to see exactly what (s)he sees. And even though (s)he drew, and (s)he was an excellent draftsman, I do fine art photography because of the creative freedom it gives me, and I prefer to work that way. I prefer that the theme is only suggested, or that the client gives me full creative freedom to get to know the person portrayed and create my perfect image. I'm not a photographer who just pushes a button on a camera to get an image drawn by others. I like my brain.

And it is useless to rely on the photos I have already taken to know whether or not you will like a portrait made by me. The photos I took reveal little of my technical skills. Most of the photographs of people I have taken that are in my Instagram highlights at the time of this posting were event photos. My proposition in fine art photography is very different and much bolder. My artistic ability to develop a portrait of you you will see when the photography arrives at your home. And you will like it. In college I was always very appreciated by my photography teacher and my relationship with art comes from childhood.
