🇬🇧 The “big yorkshire”

Yesterday when I went out for dinner I met a couple with a black dog that reminded me of Hercules, my last dog, but it had a narrower body and a longer snout.

Since I like dogs, I asked if it was a Lhasa Apso, knowing it wasn't, but I couldn't mentally identify the dog's breed, if it had one. She said it was a "big yorkshire". I explained that I found him similar to mine, which was a Lhasa, and also to the skye terrier breed, which is from the same group as the Yorkshire (Terrier), but bigger, and is a breed that I always wanted to have and in Brazil I never found a breeder. When she said yorkshire luckily she couldn't see my face as I was playing with the dog, because there is no such thing as an all black yorkshire and it was too big to be that breed (my facial expression would give away what I thought). Maybe she bought it like a yorkshire, without researching the breed standard (there are breeders who only care about the money, not respecting the breed standards they breed). Maybe she said it was a yorkshire because it's a popular breed, like the lhasa apso, and she thought I was the uninformed one and I wouldn't know the breed of dog.

I know the main standards of a fair amount of dog breeds pretty well because it's a subject I've always enjoyed studying. As well as themes related to fashion, art and other themes that arouse my interest since childhood and many others that I became interested in later on. And I think it's worth paying for purebred dogs and cats when they come from serious breeders who respect the breed's standards.

I'm Nycka. I work as a stylist, visual artist and fine art photographer. In this blog I talk about lifestyle, as it is something related to my three professional activities. I write as little as possible about work, because those who want my work know that they need and value my talent and/or my experience. Read my LinkedIn profile to learn about my experience and background. For professional personal style guidance and support, whether for special events or to develop a strong and elegant personal style, schedule an appointment following the instructions on the “Services available” page. For the other services, the hiring instructions are also there. It will be a pleasure to photograph your dog, with or without breed, and create an art that immortalises its beauty.

🇬🇧 Does wearing black make you look thinner?

Does wearing black make you look thinner?

I'm Nycka, an expert in colours, shapes and textures as non verbal communication tools, I work as a stylist, photographer and visual artist and in this text I'm going to talk about this popular belief about the colour black.

If you wear black from head to toe, you won't look any thinner for it. Maybe so, in some environments, compared to wearing head-to-toe white, but there are smarter choices. In an environment surrounded by light colours, wearing black from head to toe will only make you look fatter. Since you have little or no control over the colours in your environment and you have complete control over the colours you wear, it's smarter to choose colours, shapes, and textures that flatter you in any environment. How? Hiring my stylist service.

There are ways to include black in the look that cause the illusion that you are thinner, and other colours can usually be used when black does not flatter the person.

Another important point is that black used from head to toe by people who are overweight or want to hide localised fat is that this choice screams insecurity, low self-esteem and lack of qualified guidance.

When it comes to personal style, following what most people do is a bad choice. Mainly because following the herd means not having style. But also because these common beliefs, such as that black looks good on everyone or that wearing black from head to toe will look thinner are false. Journalists, bloggers and influencers don't have the repertoire of a professional like me and spread a lot of nonsense due to lack of knowledge. And that's exactly why you need to hire my stylist service to have expert guidance on the style rules that apply to your profile. Follow the instructions on the “Services available” page.

🇬🇧 Photography and social media channels

Hey!

I was here thinking about photography, while making contacts to put some ideas I have for November in practice, and I’d like to share a few thoughts about that and the ridiculous idea about “beauty standards” many people have.

I studied advertising and photography was part of the curriculum. More than that I spent some years working as volunteer photographer for an ONG.

I usually don’t edit the pictures I take. I prefer to do the best I can with proper light and makeup. Obviously for many people this is not enough. For models, it usually is.

If you compare a picture on a magazine to your face in the mirror you should know some things about what makes most models and public persons have those looks:

    • They take care of what they eat. They eat healthy;
    • They drink enough water. To have a good appearance is important for most of them;
    • They take care of their skin when proper eating and enough water is not enough. A good dermatologist and good products are part of their routine;
    • For pictures they usually wear good makeup brands (the difference comparing to zero makeup or cheap makeup is enormous);
    • A good photographer does the best he or she can with light. Proper light makes miracles for a picture.
    • Obviously a picture was taken from a bigger distance than the one you see your face in the mirror criticising every pore and every freckle.

I almost wrote they take care of their hair, and this is true for many, but usually women attached to long hair skip this point. They prefer to have long hair than healthy hair. Anyone who had short hair and has an observing eye can notice how fast hair grows when properly cut in short intervals. To keep mine short I cut a little bit every two weeks. To cut once a month or once every two months would cause it to grow healthy.

That said, if you want to compare yourself with some celebrity first you must have a similar lifestyle. If you want to know more about mine, follow my profiles on social media channels and include this blog on your favourite feed reader.
