🇧🇷 Sobre segregação

Diante do levante geral contra o racismo devo dizer que sou contra o racismo, mas também sou contra negros que acham que todo branco é racista, pobres que acham que todo rico é explorador, ricos medíocres e conservadores, religiosos radicais e todo tipo de pessoa radical que acha que quem pensa diferente tem de estar errado para ela estar certa.

Nos últimos anos muitas coisas estão contribuindo para uma sociedade frágil e caótica. Desde o excesso de conteúdo de autoajuda que vem sendo produzido até as formas de atuação de pessoas que defendem causas como o combate ao racismo, ao machismo, à homofobia e mesmo o vegetarianismo e veganismo. Tudo tem sido polarizado e essa polarização idiota não leva ninguém a lugar nenhum. Só nas histórias infantis o inimigo é cem por cento mau e sempre externo. Na vida real é um bocado diferente, e isso Sidarta (o buda histórico), lá na Índia, já sabia há milhares de anos.

É patético e vergonhoso ver certas posturas. Não existe empregado sem patrão e para uma empresa ser grande precisa de empregados. Cada pessoa inteligente desenvolve talentos e se torna útil à sociedade através de seu trabalho. Cada vez mais a inteligência artificial e as máquinas vão tomando vagas de trabalho braçal, mas isso não começou ontem. Vem desde os tempos da revolução industrial. Então é importante desenvolver talentos para trabalhos criativos e estratégicos e ir muito além da técnica.

Se a nacionalidade, cor da pele, gênero, orientação sexual ou religião de alguém fala mais alto que seu talento, tem algo errado. Eu nasci no Brasil, mas não sou obrigada a me comportar como o brasileiro médio se comporta (ainda bem, porque o brasileiro médio é uma vergonha). Sou mulher, mas no meu campo de atuação nenhum homem faz meu trabalho melhor que eu. Nem outras mulheres. Orientação sexual também não é algo que a gente tenha de sair provando por aí. Não diz respeito a ninguém além de você mesmo.

Pra muita coisa nessa vida a gente precisa de apoio de outras pessoas. Eu mesma estou buscando apoio e patrocínio para estudar música no exterior, um amor de infância. Se o leitor puder colaborar, vou adorar! Mas são lutas individuais, não pertencem a todos os membros de um grupo, na maioria das vezes. Maioria não é todo mundo.
Tem muitas outras coisas que são lutas internas, de descobrir de onde veio aquele nosso sentimento de inferioridade ou que talentos me faltam para mudar minha condição. E com tanta fonte externa de autoajuda e lutas por minorias essa luta interna é negligenciada por muitos. Os radicais que mencionei no começo do texto buscam culpados, mas não fazem nenhum tipo de autoanálise. Só acham que são certos e donos da verdade. E se tornam um bando de chatos limitados.

As lutas internas são duras, terríveis, mas só encontramos paz real ao enfrentar essas batalhas. Existem inimigos fora? Sim, porque tem muita gente egoísta e espiritualmente miserável por aí. Mas sem encarar a batalha contra si mesmo e seus fantasmas internos toda batalha externa será perdida.

Por mais que a mídia tradicional insista em dar palco para idiotas porque seu maior interesse é ter audiência e a maioria das pessoas é culturalmente limitada e interessada em fofocas e crimes, existem pessoas com atitudes interessantes e diferentes nesse mundo.

Do ponto de vista do marketing, para dialogar com quem pensa diferente do que a mídia tradicional propaga é preciso pensar mais em conteúdo e menos em números.

Ninguém concorda 100% com tudo que outra pessoa faz e pensa, mas é absolutamente necessário que exista respeito pelas diferenças, pelos limites do outro e por si mesmo.

🇬🇧 Travel and foreign languages

Is it worth investing in travel and studying foreign languages?

I could answer with an emphatic yes. But I prefer to ask a few questions so that you can find out if your travel experiences were worthwhile, if your future trips can be used to the fullest or if your profile does not align with the maximum use of the experience, and others to reflect on the use of foreign languages  in your life. Then I will do a more in-depth assessment.

1. What are your long-term professional goals?
2. What is your interest in the culture of countries where the language you are considering studying is spoken as an official language?
3. How open to diversity and different ways of thinking and acting are you?
4. What do you know about the culture of the place you want to visit?
5. What is different, exciting and unique about that place?
6. How is the climate of the place? Are you prepared to face the climatic conditions in the period you plan to be there?
7. Have you read my text on how to create your own travel itinerary here on the blog?

When we invest in something, we want to have a return. Not necessarily a financial return. Most people I know who speak at least one foreign language well are because they have a cultural interest in communicating better with speakers of that language. If your motivation is not linked to the interest of opening your head to new cultures, the fruits that you will reap may not be very juicy. Unfortunately, many english speakers feel too comfortable because everyone knows english, so they don’t try other languages, but embracing this attitude is proper for narrow minded people. 

In the case of travel, there are those who travel just to enjoy a beach without compromise or to shop, but these motivations, although valid, do not add value to life. Knowing sights, in itself, is also of little value. What is the use of going to Paris and seeing Monalisa at the Louvre if you do not notice the differences between a mediocre work and a genius work? See just because it is a mandatory stop, something that is on the itinerary of every tourist and every travel agency? Don't be so muggle! Saying in a circle of friends that you went to Paris and visited the Louvre makes no difference, unless your friends don't usually travel. And if you need friends so mediocre to feel on top, your ego is too fragile. You need to evolve more as a human being.

What brings return in travel is to look for what is culturally interesting and unique in that place and to have a mentality of constant search for cultural enrichment. Do you want to go to the Louvre? Be consistent and get used to visiting museums in your city, exhibitions by different artists, then also visit other museums in other cities, observe the differences between the works, the details, follow artists on social networks and observe how their work is made. Each artwork has a story behind it.  Hence the importance of doing your own planning. In addition, making all travel decisions without agency assistance is an excellent exercise in self-confidence and maturity.

I mentioned the Louvre, but for any tourist spot, in any country, it is interesting to note the reasons why that place or monument is a tourist spot. I have been to many small towns with images that resemble Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro in a smaller size. What differentiates those statues from the famous Rio monument?

A cultural nomad is the one who makes the most of each place, enriching himself with the local culture, making friends with people from all over the world, exercising his brain without leaving his physical appearance aside. Are you making the most of the opportunities that open up when travelling?

Vale a pena investir em viagens e em estudar idiomas estrangeiros?

Eu poderia responder com um enfático sim. Mas prefiro fazer algumas perguntas para que você descubra se suas experiências de viagem valeram a pena, se suas viagens futuras podem ser aproveitadas ao máximo ou se seu perfil não se alinha ao aproveitamento máximo da experiência, e outras para refletir sobre o uso de línguas estrangeiras em sua vida. Depois farei uma avaliação mais aprofundada.

1. Quais são seus objetivos profissionais de longo prazo?
2. Qual seu interesse na cultura dos países onde o idioma que pensa em estudar é falado como língua oficial?
3. Quão aberto à diversidade e a diferentes modos de pensar e agir você é?
4. O que você sabe sobre a cultura do local que pretende visitar?
5. O que existe de diferente, instigante e único naquele lugar?
6. Como é o clima do lugar? Você está preparado para enfrentar as condições climáticas no período que planeja estar lá?
7. Já leu meu texto sobre como elaborar seu próprio roteiro de viagem aqui no blog?

Quando investimos em algo, desejamos ter um retorno. Não necessariamente um retorno financeiro. A maioria das pessoas que conheço que fala bem ao menos um idioma estrangeiro é por ter interesse cultural em comunicar-se com falantes daquele idioma. Certamente existem casos de gente que estuda para ter no currículo, porque para qualquer vaga de emprego razoável hoje em dia o inglês é obrigatório. Mas esta motivação dificilmente gera bons falantes, então se sua motivação não está ligada ao interesse de abrir sua cabeça pra novas culturas, os frutos que vai colher podem não ser muito suculentos.

No caso das viagens, existe quem viaje só para curtir uma praia sem compromisso ou para fazer compras, mas essas motivações, embora válidas, não agregam valor à vida. Conhecer pontos turísticos, em si, também é algo de pouco valor. De que adianta ir a Paris e ver a Monalisa no Louvre se você não percebe as diferenças entre uma obra medíocre e uma obra genial? Ver só porque é uma parada obrigatória, algo que está no roteiro de todo turista e toda agência de viagem? Não seja tão trouxa! Dizer numa roda de amigos que foi a Paris e visitou o Louvre não faz diferença nenhuma, a menos que seus amigos não costumem viajar. E se precisa de amigos tão medíocres pra se sentir por cima, seu ego é frágil demais. Precisa evoluir mais como ser humano.

O que traz retorno em viagens é procurar o que existe de culturalmente interessante e único naquele local e ter uma mentalidade de busca constante pelo enriquecimento cultural. Quer ir ao Louvre? Seja coerente e habitue-se a visitar os museus de sua cidade, as exposições de diferentes artistas, depois visite também outros museus, em outras cidades, observe as diferenças entre as obras, os detalhes, siga artistas nas redes sociais e observe como seu trabalho é feito. Cada obra tem uma história por trás. Por isso a importância de fazer seu próprio planejamento. Além disso, tomar todas as decisões sobre uma viagem sem ajuda de agência é um excelente exercício de autoconfiança e amadurecimento.

Eu mencionei o Louvre, mas para qualquer ponto turístico, em qualquer país, é interessante observar os motivos daquele local ou monumento serem pontos turísticos. Já passei por muitas cidades pequenas com imagens que lembram a do Cristo Redentor no Rio de Janeiro. O que diferencia aquelas estátuas do famoso monumento carioca?

Um nômade cultural é quem tira o maior proveito de cada lugar, enriquecendo-se com a cultura local, fazendo amizades com gente de todo o mundo, exercitando o cérebro sem deixar a aparência física de lado. Será que você está aproveitando ao máximo as oportunidades que se abrem ao viajar?

🇬🇧 How to choose a travel destination

Those who are not used to traveling or always travel in groups may find it difficult to plan a trip. I have already described the process of writing the script for a trip here on the blog. Today I'm going to give you tips on how to choose your destination, without limiting yourself to trendy destinations, telling a little bit about how I make this choice.

Personal taste greatly influences the choice. What do you expect from a destination? What types of attractions are you interested in? The purpose of the trip is also important.

For me, in all cases, it is important that the place where I am staying accepts animals (including cats), that has the structure to welcome the animal and me, including cat scratching posts or many cardboard boxes that make the  same effect, because it is very uncomfortable to take a scratching post on a trip and without it, the chances of the cat using the rug and furniture to sharpen its nails are 100%. Prohibiting animals from sleeping in bed is not smart. Mine sleep in mine and there's no way to get them used not to do it. Have an efficient cleaning system and specific apartments for those who have animals is a better idea. Nylon webs on the windows (I don’t know the name of this thing in english, but I’m talking about this thing protecting the balcony where my cat is in the picture below) are also essential, as well as a team trained to respect the “do not disturb” sign on the door.

For those looking for peace, one way may be to look for a very well-structured farm hotel, that we can stay there without worrying about anything, that is a comfortable place, with good food, many options for activities to do during the stay (preferably all included in the package), which offers free transportation between the city (airport or bus station) and the location and has good quality internet available to guests, also included in the daily rate. There are those who seek peace by disconnecting, but for me it doesn't work. I have to have the option to connect anywhere on the planet. Another option is to travel to small cities that are not popular tourist destinations or out of season. Spas can also be an interesting option. I rarely travel with this interest in peace and nothing more, to escape humanity and focus on me outside my home, but for many people, and for me when I do it, it is therapeutic, wonderful.

If the interest is beach, I focus on the quality of the hotel, regardless of wanting a busy or quiet beach, and the ease of access to the beach. If you do not find any good hotel it is a sign that the city does not have a good structure to receive tourists.

On business trips I look for good hotels, well located, but with a structure focused on the experience inside the apartment and in the restaurant, like having a good hot tub in the room, instead of a sauna, swimming pool, games room, etc. As time on a work trip tends to be dedicated to work, during free time I prefer to relax alone, or meet friends at the hotel.

If I have friends in the destination city, on business trips the time to meet them is short and I prefer that they go to the hotel. This saves my energy to focus on work. If I am traveling for leisure, going out with friends to interesting places in the city is the most likely to happen. But a well-structured hotel is always essential.

In general, another point that I evaluate in my choices are the artistic, cultural and gastronomic options of the chosen destination. So I usually like to travel to big cities, where these options are many. But I have already made many good trips to small and medium-sized cities. If a place has nothing interesting in these aspects, it will not attract much attention. I am able to travel to a place where I normally would not go if a band I love is going to play there, as long as I am very interested in taking advantage of every opportunity to be close to the artists (and there are few artists who arouse this desire in  me). On the other hand, after planning to spend my birthday in the Maldives a few years ago, when I researched the local culture, including asking the hotel where I would stay and found nothing, I gave up. To see beautiful beaches, I can see many others that culturally have more to offer, like many in Brazil and Greece. For me, cultural activities and getting to know the regional cuisine are very important when traveling. I have never stayed in one of these resorts where there are hundreds of activities to do in there, because my interest in culture and art is greater. Maybe one day I'll go, out of curiosity, if I find one with options that keep me entertained all day, possibly in some destination that doesn't have much to offer outside the resort.

🇧🇷 Como escolher o destino de viagem

Quem não está habituado a viajar ou viaja sempre em grupos pode ter dificuldade de fazer um planejamento de viagem. Eu já descrevi o processo de fazer o roteiro aqui no blog. Hoje vou dar dicas de como escolher o destino, sem limitar-se a destinos da moda ou badalados contando um pouco de como eu faço essa escolha.

O gosto pessoal influencia muito na escolha. O que você espera de um destino? Que tipos de atrativos te interessam? O objetivo da viagem também é importante.

Pra mim, em todos os casos, é importante que o local onde eu for me hospedar aceite animais (gatos, inclusive), que tenha estrutura pra receber bem o animal e a mim, incluindo arranhador pro gato ou muitas caixas de papelão que façam o mesmo efeito, porque é bem incômodo levar um arranhador em viagem e sem arranhador as chances do gato usar o tapete e os móveis pra afiar as unhas são de cem por cento. Proibir os animais de dormir na cama não é inteligente. Os meus dormem na minha e não tem como desacostumá-los. Tenha um sistema de limpeza eficiente e apartamentos específicos para quem tem animais. Telas nas janelas também são essenciais, assim como uma equipe treinada a respeitar o aviso de “não perturbe” na porta.

Para quem busca sossego, um caminho pode ser buscar um hotel fazenda muito bem estruturado, que a gente possa ficar ali sem se preocupar com nada, que seja um lugar confortável, com boa comida, muitas opções de atividades para fazer durante a estadia (de preferência inclusas no pacote), que ofereça transporte gratuito entre a cidade (aeroporto ou rodoviária) e o local e tenha internet de boa qualidade disponível pros hóspedes, também inclusa na diária. Tem quem busque sossego desconectando-se, mas pra mim isso não serve. Eu tenho de ter a opção de me conectar em qualquer lugar do planeta. Outra opção é viajar para cidades pequenas que não sejam destinos turísticos badalados ou fora de temporada. Spas também podem ser uma pedida interessante. Eu raramente viajo com esse interesse de sossego e mais nada, de fugir da humanidade e centrar em mim fora da minha casa, mas pra muita gente, e pra mim quando faço, é terapêutico, maravilhoso.

Se o interesse é praia, eu foco na qualidade do hotel, independentemente de querer uma praia movimentada ou sossegada, e na facilidade de acesso à praia. Se não achar nenhum hotel bom é sinal que a cidade não tem boa estrutura pra receber turistas.

Em viagens a trabalho eu procuro hotéis bons, bem localizados, mas que tenham uma estrutura focada na experiência dentro do apartamento e no restaurante, como ter uma boa banheira de hidromassagem no quarto, em vez de sauna, piscina, salão de jogos, etc. Como o tempo numa viagem de trabalho tende a ser dedicado ao trabalho, o tempo livre eu prefiro relaxar sozinha, ou encontrar os amigos no hotel mesmo.

Se tenho amigos na cidade destino, em viagens a trabalho o tempo para encontrá-los é curto e prefiro que eles vão ao hotel. Isso poupa minhas energias para focar no trabalho. Se estou viajando por lazer, sair com os amigos para lugares interessantes na cidade é o mais provável que aconteça. Mas sempre um hotel bem estruturado é fundamental.

De modo geral outro ponto que avalio em minhas escolhas são as opções artísticas, culturais e gastronômicas do destino escolhido. Por isso geralmente gosto mais de viajar pra cidades grandes, onde tais opções são muito variadas. Mas já fiz muitas viagens boas para cidades pequenas e médias. Se um lugar não tem nada de interessante nesses aspectos não vai chamar muito minha atenção. Eu sou capaz de viajar para um lugar para onde normalmente eu não iria se uma banda que eu ame for tocar ali, desde que eu esteja muito interessada em aproveitar todas as oportunidades de estar perto dos artistas (e são poucos artistas que despertam essa vontade em mim). Por outro lado, depois de planejar passar meu aniversario nas Maldivas há alguns anos, quando pesquisei sobre a cultura local, inclusive perguntando ao hotel onde iria hospedar-me e não achei nada, desisti. Pra ver praia bonita posso ver muitas outras que culturalmente têm mais a oferecer, como muitas do Brasil e da Grécia. Pra mim, atividades culturais e conhecer a gastronomia regional são muito importantes em viagens. Nunca fiquei num desses resorts onde tem centenas de atividades pra fazer lá dentro, porque esse meu interesse por cultura e arte é maior. Talvez um dia eu vá, de curiosidade, se achar um com opções que me mantenham entretida o dia todo, possivelmente em algum destino que não tenha muito a oferecer fora do resort.

🇬🇧 How to travel to Canada with your dog

Dogs arriving in Canada do not need to be quarantined or need a microchip if it is a personal trip, and not for commercial purposes, to participate in competitions and exhibitions, scientific research, etc.

The Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) can refer any animal presented at the border for secondary inspection by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). Expect delays. Importers should use the Automated Import Reference System tool to determine whether a CFIA inspection is required. If so, they should contact the CFIA closest to their first point of entry into Canada to schedule the inspection.

Dogs must have all vaccinations according to their age. Dogs under 3 months old do not need to be vaccinated against rabies, but the age of the animal must be confirmed when requested.

A charge of $30 + fees is charged for the first animal and $5 plus fees for the rest to have their documentation inspected by the CBSA (Canada Border Services Agency) upon arrival in the country.  If it is found that the animal does not meet the vaccination rules, the owner will be required to vaccinate the animal within two weeks of arrival, for which $55 plus fees for vaccinating the first animal and $30 plus fees for  the others. These fees must all be paid at the time of inspection.

Importation of food for “personal” use (of your dog, as opposed to commercial use, which is for sale) is prohibited. So, when you go there, you should research where there is a pet shop nearby and, ideally, where it sells the food your dog is used to.

More countries and more companies should, like Canada, understand that, nowadays, dogs and cats are part of our family.

🇧🇷 Como viajar com cachorro para o Canadá

Cães chegando ao Canadá não precisam ficar em quarentena nem precisam de microchip caso seja uma viagem pessoal, e não para fins comerciais, para participar de competições e exposições, pesquisa científica, etc.

A Agência de Serviços de Fronteira do Canadá (CBSA) pode encaminhar qualquer animal apresentado na fronteira para inspeção secundária pela Agência Canadense de Inspeção de Alimentos (CFIA).  Espere atrasos. Os importadores devem usar a ferramenta Sistema de referência automatizado de importação para determinar se uma inspeção CFIA é necessária. Caso seja, devem entrar em contato com a CFIA mais próxima ao seu primeiro ponto de entrada no Canadá para agendar a inspeção.

Os cães devem ter todas as vacinas de acordo com sua idade. Cães com menos de 3 meses não precisam estar vacinados contra a raiva, mas a idade do animal deve ser comprovada quando solicitado.

É cobrado um valor de $30 + taxas para o primeiro animal e $5 mais taxas para os demais terem sua documentação inspecionada pelo CBSA (Canada Border Services Agency) na chegada ao país. Caso seja verificado que o animal não atende às regras de vacinação, será exigido que o proprietário vacine o animal num período de até duas semanas a partir da chegada, e para isso é cobrado $55 mais taxas para vacinar o primeiro animal e $30 mais taxas para os demais. Estas taxas devem ser todas pagas no momento da inspeção.

A importação de ração para uso “pessoal” (do seu cão, em oposição ao uso comercial, que é pra vender) é proibida. Ou seja, quando for para lá, você deve pesquisar onde tem uma pet shop próxima e, idealmente, onde vende a ração que seu cachorro está acostumado.

Mais países e mais empresas deveriam, como o Canadá, compreender que, hoje em dia, cães e gatos fazem parte de nossa família.

If Australia is annoying to accept cats from many countries, Canada is pretty friendly.

Domestic cats arriving in Canada do not need to be quarantined nor need a health certificate or import permit, but they do need a rabies vaccination certificate if the animal is more than 3 months old and comes from a country that is not recognized as free from rabies. The certificate must be in English or French, be issued and signed by a certified veterinarian, inform that the animal was vaccinated against rabies and when it was vaccinated, indicate the name and number of the licensed vaccine and specify the duration of immunity (without this  last information will be considered one year from the last vaccination).

A charge of $30 + taxes is charged for the first animal and $5 plus taxes for the rest to have their documentation inspected by the CBSA (Canada Border Services Agency) upon arrival in the country.  If the animal does not meet the vaccination rules, the owner will be required to vaccinate it within two weeks of arrival, for which $55 plus taxes for vaccinating the first animal and $30 plus taxes for  the others. These fees must all be paid at the time of inspection.

The country does not require time between the date of vaccination and the date the animal arrives in the country, nor does it require the animal to have a microchip.

Cats under the age of 3 months are exempt from the import criteria.

Importation of food for “personal” use (of your cat, as opposed to commercial use, which is for sale) is prohibited. That is, when you go there, you should research where there is a pet store nearby and, ideally, where it sells the food your cat is used to.

For dogs the country have some extra rules, so I'll talk about them in another post.

I suggest you to include Canada in your itinerary post-quarantine. And I would love more countries as cat friendly as Canada because any wise person knows nowadays cats and dogs are family members. It’s not fair to get a job abroad and be delayed for months because our cats and dogs must provide lots of exams. If we have the commitment to keep them healthy I see no reason for bureaucracy. What do you think about this?

Se a Austrália é chatinha para aceitar gatos de muitos países, o Canadá é bem tranquilo.

Gatos domésticos chegando ao Canadá não precisam ficar em quarentena nem precisam de certificado de saúde ou permissão de importação, mas precisa de um certificado de vacinação contra raiva se o animal tem mais de 3 meses e vem de um país que não seja reconhecido como livre da doença. O certificado deve estar em inglês ou francês, ser emitido e assinado por um veterinário certificado, informar que o animal foi vacinado contra a raiva e quando foi vacinado, indicar o nome e o número da vacina licenciada e especificar a duração da imunidade (sem esta última informação será considerado o prazo de um ano a partir da última vacinação).

É cobrado um valor de $30 + taxas para o primeiro animal e $5 mais taxas para os demais terem sua documentação inspecionada pelo CBSA (Canada Border Services Agency) na chegada ao país. Caso seja verificado que o animal não atende às regras de vacinação, será exigido que o proprietário vacine o animal num período de até duas semanas a partir da chegada, e para isso é cobrado $55 mais taxas para vacinar o primeiro animal e $30 mais taxas para os demais. Estas taxas devem ser todas pagas no momento da inspeção.

O país não exige um tempo entre a data de vacinação e a data que o animal chega ao país, nem requer que o animal tenha microchip.

Gatos com idade inferior a 3 meses são isentos dos critérios de importação.

A importação de ração para uso “pessoal” (do seu gato, em oposição ao uso comercial, que é pra vender) é proibida. Ou seja, quando for para lá, você deve pesquisar onde tem uma pet shop próxima e, idealmente, onde vende a ração que seu gato está acostumado.

Para cães as regras existem algumas regras extras, por isso falarei delas em outro texto.

🇬🇧 How to go to Australia with cats or dogs

Some time ago I published here the many types of visas that Australia accepts. Unfortunately, the country is not so friendly to those who have pets and has numerous rules for accepting them, including not allowing them to be imported directly from some countries.

In the case of cats, some breeds are not allowed, regardless of the country of origin.  Among these, Savanah and Bengal, which come from crosses with wild animals.

Among dogs, mixtures of dogs and wolves and breeds such as the Brazilian Fila, the dogo Argentino, the Japanese Tosa, the pit bull terrier, the American pit bull terrier and the Presa Canario cannot enter the country, regardless of their country of origin.

Animals must have a microchip that can be read by Avid, Trovan, Destron, ISO or compatible readers. Microchips starting with 999 are not accepted. The traveler can send the microchip reader with the animal to make sure the chip can be read when his pet arrives in Australia. If the animal has 2 microchips, both must be included in the documentation.

If you live in an approved country type 2, you must follow the step by step available in https://www.agriculture.gov.au/cats-dogs/step-by-step-guides/category2-step-by-step-guide-for-cats to travel with your cat.

For cats from unapproved countries, imported from an approved type 2 country, the guardian must move with the cat to the approved country, stay there for at least 6 months and then follow the steps for importing from an approved type 2 country.

Cat caretakers from unapproved countries choosing to start from a type 3 approved country must migrate with the cat to the approved country and follow the step by step to travel with the cat from an approved country type 3.

All cats arriving in Australia must have a valid import authorization. The absence of any conditions may result in the animal being kept in quarantine for longer, subjected to further health tests, exported or euthanized. 😱 And the one who pays the bill in all cases is the guardian. Couldn't they just keep the cat safely at home without access to the street receiving care of local veterinarians? I was horrified by the option of euthanasia.

Those who have dogs from unapproved countries imported from an approved country type 3 must migrate with the dog to the approved country and follow the step by step to travel with them from an approved type 3 country.

If you want to travel with your dog from a non approved country starting the process in an approved country type 2, you must move to the approved country with the animal, stay there for at least six months, then follow the step by step for that country. 

Dogs that do not meet the conditions are also subject to further tests, export, longer stay in quarantine and euthanasia.

All animals must be quarantined in Melbourne for at least ten days in a location specified by the government.

Há algum tempo publiquei aqui os muitos tipos de visto que a Austrália emite. Infelizmente o país não é tão amigável com quem tem animais de estimação e tem inúmeras regrinhas para aceitá-los, inclusive não permitindo que sejam importados diretamente de alguns países. Entre os países de língua portuguesa, apenas Portugal e Macau estão entre os países aprovados. Ambos fazem parte da lista de países aprovados tipo 3. Para os restantes, é preciso ir com o animal para um dos países aprovados, respeitando as normas de saúde e importação deles, e, de lá, solicitar a autorização para ir para a Austrália.

No caso dos gatos, algumas raças não são permitidas, independentemente do país de origem. Entre elas, o Savanah e o Bengal, que têm origem em cruzamentos com animais selvagens.

Entre os cães, misturas entre cães e lobos e raças como o fila brasileiro, o dogo argentino, Tosa japonês, pitbull terrier, pitbull terrier americano e o Presa Canario não podem entrar no país, independentemente de seu país de origem.

Os animais devem ter microchip que possa ser lido por leitores Avid, Trovan, Destron, ISO ou compatíveis. Microchips com número iniciado em 999 não são aceitos. A falha em atender todas as condições pode resultar no animal ser mantido por mais tempo na quarentena, sujeitado a testes adicionais de saúde, exportado ou eutanasiado. 😱 E quem paga a conta em todos os casos é o tutor. Não dava pra simplesmente manter o gato no país em lar sem acesso à rua? Fiquei horrorizada com a opção de eutanásia.

🇬🇧 Safety and other problems during trips

Some people ask me about travel and hotel security. I have been creating my own itineraries for about eighteen years, going from big cities to cities so small that they didn't even have a bus station. And I never had any major security problems, either on the streets or in hotels. Of course it is good to take some precautions, but travel is a time to relax, even when it is work. Traveling tense and terrified is not very useful to enjoy the beauty and qualities of each destination.

I've already told you here how to create your own script for trips. It's very easy. With the internet you can search for hotels and everything, see the location and, for bigger cities, you can even spy on the neighbourhood through Google Street View.

I already got lost on walks. I have already stayed in a hotel (very good) on the side of a favela because I had to book at the last minute. I already had to call the hotel to send me a taxi because there was none where I was (I had been to a friend's band show). I had various uncomfortable experiences, but I never had any major safety issues while traveling.

My biggest problems that I remember were failures in hotel management.

I once traveled a week to a hotel where breakfast was optional and as I was going to wake up late most days so I asked for a reservation without breakfast, I had it only on Saturday and Sunday, and they charged me for the entire week for breakfast. Absurd!

In another occasion, I had made the reservation in advance and the hotel called me canceling because they had a hydraulic problem when I was at the Curitiba airport waiting for the flight to my destination. It was when I made the emergency reservation at the hotel near the favela. This hotel, inside, was much better than the other. There was a great hot tub to forget the world outside when I arrived from the event I was attending.

Once, with a “do not disturb” sign on the door, someone tried to enter my room. Luckily that there was an internal lock on the door, that it only opened about 10cm and the person left.

And once I was in a hotel with a small kitchen in the apartment, and I decided to use the microwave oven to make a lasagna, and the apartment electric key fell off. I was in the dark. But I called the front desk and they sent the electrician there quickly and I could prepare my dinner.

With experiences like these I learned the hotels I can't count on. And the failures are usually in hotels of large hotel chains, which, as far as I could see, are not concerned with maintaining a quality standard among their units. I sincerely hope that with this coronavirus situation, hotels will rethink their strategies and seek to create better experiences for their guests, in addition to creating a quality standard in hotels of the same flag in a hotel chain. The flaws I mentioned and other small flaws I have observed throughout my life are all very easy to correct and the fact that they occurred shows a lack of interest in the client's well-being.

Luckily there are hotels that are concerned with serving well and improving, and I hope they will survive this crisis and prosper.

🇧🇷 Segurança e outros problemas de viagem

Algumas pessoas me perguntam sobre segurança em viagens e em hotéis. Eu viajo criando meus próprios roteiros há uns dezoito anos, indo desde a grandes metrópoles a cidades tão pequenas que nem rodoviária tinham. E nunca tive grandes problemas de segurança, seja nas ruas, seja nos hotéis. Claro que é bom tomar alguns cuidados, mas viagem é um momento de relaxar, mesmo quando é a trabalho. Viajar tenso e apavorado não é muito útil para desfrutar as belezas e qualidades de cada destino.

Eu já contei aqui como criar seu próprio roteiro. É bem tranquilo. Com a internet dá para pesquisar hotéis e tudo mais, ver a localização e, pras cidades maiores, dá até pra espiar a vizinhança pelo Google Street View.

Eu já me perdi em passeios. Já fiquei hospedada em um hotel (muito bom) do lado de uma favela por ter tido de reservar muito em cima da hora. Já tive de ligar pro hotel me mandar um táxi porque não tinha nenhum onde eu estava (tinha ido ao show da banda de um amigo). Enfim, passei algumas saias justas, mas nunca tive grandes problemas de segurança viajando.

Meus maiores problemas que lembro foram falhas da gestão dos hotéis.

Uma vez eu viajei uma semana pra um hotel onde o café da manhã era opcional e como eu ia acordar tarde a maioria dos dias pedi a reserva sem café, tomei café só no sábado e domingo, e me cobraram a semana toda de café. Absurdo!

Numa outra vez, tinha feito a reserva com antecedência e o hotel me liga cancelando por terem tido um problema hidráulico quando eu estava no aeroporto de Curitiba esperando o vôo para meu destino. Foi quando fiz a reserva de emergência no hotel perto da favela que, por dentro, era muito melhor que o outro. Tinha uma banheira de hidromassagem ótima pra esquecer o mundo lá fora quando eu chegava do evento que eu estava acompanhando.

Uma vez, com aviso de “não perturbe” na porta, alguém tentou entrar no meu quarto. Sorte que tinha uma trava interna na porta, que ela só abriu uns 10cm e a pessoa foi embora.

E uma vez estava num hotel com estrutura de flat, resolvi usar o microondas pra fazer uma lasanha, e a chave do apartamento caiu. Fiquei no escuro. Mas liguei na recepção e mandaram o eletricista lá rapidinho e consegui jantar.

Com experiências assim eu aprendi os hotéis com os quais não posso contar. E geralmente as falhas são em hotéis de grandes redes hoteleiras, que, pelo que pude observar, não se preocupam em manter um padrão de qualidade entre suas unidades. Sinceramente espero que com essa situação do coronavírus os hotéis repensem suas estratégias e busquem criar experiências melhores para seus hóspedes, além de criar um padrão de qualidade em hotéis de uma mesma bandeira numa rede hoteleira. As falhas que mencionei e outras pequenas falhas que observei ao longo da vida são todas muito fáceis de serem corrigidas e o fato de terem ocorrido mostra falta de interesse no bem estar do cliente.

Por sorte existem hotéis que se preocupam em atender bem e em melhorar, e espero que estes sobrevivam a esta crise e prosperem.
