🇬🇧 Cultural nomadism - a lifestyle

We can move from a place to another for various reasons. One of them is to know better other cultures, to become a global citizen. Other is ...

Aprender a escolher onde morar é parte do processo. Vamos alugar um imóvel? Comprar?

E shows. E de fato nunca estive só.
Sentir-se isolado e sozinho é uma escolha. Eu escolho sentir-me feliz em minha própria companhia. E outras pessoas acabam aparecendo.

🇬🇧 Nomadism and professions

Multinational businesses often request their employees to be available to move to other cities and countries. In these companies, not everyone really appreciates to left home, and many does not need to do this. Outside these businesses, how could we work anywhere we are in this world, choosing every week or every month where will we go?
I think, in general, autonomous professionals with a bachelor degree can work with this freedom if their souls want to fly and they're open to know other people and other cultures.
Some works require a team to be done and this team can play in multiple countries at the same time, exchanging positions from time to time, according to their power and will to create these opportunities.
Cultural nomadism is freedom. A freedom people need spiritual strength to conquer.
Even if you have no plans to move from where you are, it's worthy to read this blog. I knew a guy who said he would never left the city where he was born. Three years later he is living in another continent. Life always brings changes for us.
Some days ago, I watched a movie about the young Abraham Lincoln. There is a scene in this movie Lincoln is travelling to visit his clients' family. He asks a neighbour to tell anyone who asks for him he was at his office. "Where is your office, mr. Lincoln?", asked the man. "It's under my hat", answered Lincoln.
Can you do your job considering your office is anywhere you are with a smartphone or a computer to communicate with your clients? Do you trust your talents and qualities to live in different places, away from family, making new friendships in each new town you arrive?

🇧🇷 As profissões e o nomadismo

Lincoln?", questionou o vizinho. A resposta: "É sob meu chapéu".

🇬🇧 Brazil - what to eat and drink in the northeast

Brazil is a big country and the variety of typical food travellers and nomads can find here is enormous. Brazil is much more than feijoada and caipirinha. This post is to talk about the food in the northeast region, which includes the states of Rio Grande do Norte, Ceará, Pernambuco, Piauí, Maranhão, Bahia, Alagoas, Paraíba and Sergipe. This region offer typical food mainly with seafood and fishes, as most of the touristic attention is on the beaches, but the other cities have also interesting options to try, considering culture, art and gastronomy. Some of these foods are found in restaurants in other regions too, but the originals are always more interesting.
One of my favourite desserts, which is often found for breakfast in hotels in Pernambuco, is "bolo de rolo". Pernambuco have one of my favourite gastronomies in Brazil. Bahia is other state I love from this point of view (the culture, art and natural beauties, too, for both of them and Minas Gerais).
In the northeast "cocada" is other typical dessert. From white to dark cocada, I recommend you to try all.
Acarajé is a delicious typical food from Bahia. A dough made with beans, fried and fulfilled with shrimps and vatapá. Ask with no pepper (or just a little), because if you ask it "hot", you'll feel like a dragon. "Hot" for acarajé means with a lot of pepper. Don't lose an opportunity to eat it!
Also from Bahia there are "bobó de camarão", a delicious dish made with shrimps and coconut milk, and many other food with fish or seafood.
The "tapioca" and various sweet dishes made with corn, like "canjica" and "mugunzá" are also interesting.
If you have no problems with pepper and love seafood, northeast is a feast.
The cocoa juice is an excellent choice to drink during any meal. Juices of cashew or pineapple with coconut are also good choices. Coconut water is amazing anytime to keep the body hidratated.

🇬🇧 Brazil - what to eat and drink in the southeast

Brazil is a big country and the variety of typical food travellers and nomads can find here is enormous. Brazil is much more than feijoada and caipirinha. This post is to talk about the food in the southeast region, which includes the states of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Espírito Santo and Minas Gerais.
This region offer a wide variety of typical foods. Some of these foods are found in restaurants in other regions too, but the local versions, in special for food from Minas Gerais, are much more interesting.
The typical foods from Minas Gerais are among my favourite brazilian foods.
The traditional feijoada is one example of local typical food. Made with black beans and pieces of pig. I don't eat the external pieces of pig, like ears, tail or feet, but some restaurants use only inner parts to prepare feijoada.
Muslims and other people who does not appreciate to eat pig (or the strong taste of black beans) have other options, like the "caldeirada", which is made with seafood and white beans.
Southeast also have "galinhada" (rice, pequi and chicken), the "arroz com pequi" (rice with pequi and bull meat salted to dry), "feijão tropeiro" (beans sauced with bacon and other ingredients), and many other. Chances are you feast in local restaurants in Minas Gerais, where we also can find great chefs of contemporary gastronomy using local ingredients in very creative dishes. Local food, in special fish and seafood on the beach (Buzios, Ubatuba, Angra dos Reis, Parati, Trindade, Rio, etc) are also good options. To eat close to the river São Francisco the local food is also an amazing experience.
Oops! I cannot finish this post without mention local desserts! The most famous is called "Romeu and Julieta" (Romeo and Juliet) and it's made of goiabada with cheese Minas or Canastra. In Minas there is a wide variety of desserts made with fruits, all of them very sweet. The "doce de leite" is made of milk and it's found in different consistences, from cream to solid. You'll find desserts made of papayas, oranges, mangoes and many other fruits, with sugar syrup, creamy or solid. Another good experience is called "quebra queixo" and is made of coconuts.
The best brazilian coffees are from the southeast: from Minas Gerais and São Paulo. The best cachaças are also made in these states.
The "quentão" in Minas is a hot drink prepared with cachaça, with flavour and smell very different from the "quentão" in the south.
These are only some ideas. For more specific tips, follow this blog and my social media channels to keep updated.

🇬🇧 The world like home

I was reminding a Brazilian acquaintance who got married a swedish man and lived 6 months in Brazil and 6 in Sweden each year while her husband was alive.
I was considering go a step further and live each season in a different place. To enjoy the summer in Greece or Spain and six months later to be in New Zealand or Indonesia, and during the mid season to work from Italy, or South Africa, or Colombia, or the USA. Is it autumn nice in Texas?
The world is enormous and to enjoy different cultures at the same time I avoid uncomfortable winters sounds good. If my pets can go with me, of course.
Some people have the experience to work abroad or to live somewhere with a different country and hate it. I want this life since I was 16. I started having this when I worked as style consultant, with clients from different places and buying clothing from various countries and regions.
I created this blog to do my job at the same time I can enrich my culture and travel the world, without being attached to one place only or to clients from a limited region. I like to know other people and other cultures.

🇬🇧 Brazil - what to eat and drink in the south

Brazil is a big country and the variety of typical food travellers and nomads can find here is enormous. Brazil is much more than feijoada and caipirinha. This post is to talk about the food in the south region, which includes the states of Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and Paraná. This region offer typical food with very soft tastes compared to other regions. Some of these foods are found in restaurants in other regions too.
The south have less black population than the other regions of Brazil. Most people are descendants of italians and germans, but we have also people from Ukraine, Poland, Japan, Portugal, etc.
Even the "italian" food is not so italian, as it's influenced by italian gastronomy, adding some brazilian ingredients. More than that, in Brazil we use to eat everything together, not as italians do (first pasta, then meat and vegetables).
The most famous food in this region is the "churrasco gaúcho" from Rio Grande do Sul. Yes, you'll find churrasco everywhere in Brazil, but probably the one from Rio Grande do Sul will be a great experience.
In Paraná people eat churrasco with bread. I never tried nor found in local restaurants. For me this is called sandwich. By the way, we find sandwiches with pieces of picanha and other grilled meats added to cheese and other ingredients in various local bars and luncheonettes and this is good, in special if you're hungry, as they're big. In this state it's also possible to eat "barreado" which is bull meat with flour, almost as tasty as pasta without season or sauce. The best version I tried was served with big shrimps and this way the taste of the shrimps were outstanding.
Of course depending on the restaurant you go and the city you are, you'll find many other options, some of them more interesting than the typical local food. In other opportunities I'll tell you more about these local creative options to eat.
Oh! To drink, try local wine and, during the winter, "quentão", a hot drink also made with wine.

🇬🇧 Heroes and humans

In mythology, a hero is usually a child of a god and a human. The hero is more powerful than humans, but it's not immortal.
In cinema and other popular arts, usually heroes also seems to be more powerful than humans. Many (super) heroes have some kind of power humans don't, as the X-Men, the Superman, etc. But there are superheroes who are like wise humans. The Ironman and Batman among them.
I like when I read a book or see a movie and the hero is as human as myself. Lisbeth Salander have no superpowers. Edmond Dantes was not cultivated before prison and have zero superpowers during the journey of The Count of MonteCristo. Harry Potter, despite his magical powers, have abusive relatives.
To read about heroes and to consider their inherent humanity inspires me to think about how strong I am. Do you feel the same?
What are your favourite heroes?

🇬🇧 Mao's last dancer

I usually consider the books better than movies. This case, the movie is based on the biography of Li Cunxin. I watched the movie more than twice and still didn't read the book. I have no doubt it's an interesting book. But, let's write about what I know.
First time I watched this movie was on TV. The story is impressing. Being a communications professional, it's interesting to observe that Mao used a very old trick to control the mind of Chinese people, in a way they believed USA was miserable and that miserable life Chinese people had was marvellous. There is an interesting scene when the Chinese dancers are with a group of north american dancers in the Great Wall and a Chinese says all american look alike. It's one among many that reflects the Chinese mindset.
Cunxin was lucky to have and embrace the opportunity to study abroad and see his reality from a different point of view. He was lucky since he was a kid and was chosen to become a dancer instead of follow the career his deluded soul wanted. This, some buddhists, in special from the Soka Gakkai International, call to be a Buddha from the three existences (past, present and future). Then, Cunxin made his choice as an adult that had seen the reality from different angles and paid the price to achieve the chosen result. Was he successful? Watch and see. The movie is inspiring.

🇬🇧 "Rome" x "Visages, Villages"

Yesterday I watched Roma, from italian director Federico Fellini. Some weeks ago, I had the opportunity to watch "Visages, Villages", from french director Agnes Varda.
This is not a post to compare both directors. To be true, both movies were my first experience with each director. And it's from this point of view I'm writing.
Varda was born in Brussels and "Visages, Villages" is filmed in small villages in France. Fellini was born in Rimini and "Rome" was filmed in Rome. The inverse path. Not only for this. Varda's movie shows lots of external scenes. "Rome" is full of scenes inside some place. Dark places, sometimes claustrophobic and full of smoke, and rare moments of sun and fresh air.
Qualities? Both have many. Varda and Fellini were not great directors by chance.
Fellini shows Rome with artificial people, heavy make up for women, a very critical eye. It's "his" Rome. His home. His point of view about a city he lived. During the movie someone says Rome is the city of illusions as it concentrates the three powers that manipulate people and cause illusion. Cinema, religion and the government are these powers. The movie shows them for us as a kind of message such as "see, you're being fooled". What to say about that scene when the frescos disappear in contact to the new air?
Varda goes to small villages to know their inhabitants, she listen to their stories to make the movie. It's her point of view about places she didn't live, about other people's stories. And it's a light movie, plenty of external scenes. It also have something artificial. JR himself, and some pics the local people would never imagine to take. But it says how simple is her art. It makes me think on that people who see some art and say "any little child could do this". A child couldn't. And one didn't. Some maturity added to an open mind are required to create meaningful art. No, I'm not talking about age. Maturity and age are different things.
No, I won't choose the best. I put them in the same post because they follow different paths to show the vision of the director about a place. Both are rich experiences I highly recommend.

🇬🇧 5 Reasons to appreciate and read books

Below I present 5 reasons to appreciate and read books.
1. Literature (fiction) can expand our vision, in a way we discover different points of view, lifestyles and mindsets.
2. To read improves our ability to write, in special when we read good books.
3. We can start learning new abilities reading about themes we like, as arts.
4. Books are always more complete than movies about the same theme.
5. Biographies help us to see famous people had problems, fears and hardships as any of us.

🇬🇧 What is communication?

It sounds an idiot question. Considering common sense, it is. But I ask you, then: can we consider communication when someone sends a message but the receptor refuses it or does not understand it?
Imagine someone own a business called MondoCane, an online shop, and, using WeChat, this person sends a bottle with the message:
"Tutti i nostri prodotti con cinquecento per cento di sconto per te nelle compre in nostro site ufficiale con il codice ScontoWechat. Solo nella sua prima compra.
MondoCane punto com".
Imagine the person who takes the bottle is a Chinese and does not speak italian. Considering maybe you, my reader, don't speak italian, the message says:
"All our products with 50% off for you in our official website with the code ScontoWechat. Only for your first time shopping.
MondoCane.com"
The business owner had a great opportunity to gain a new buyer. The intention was good, but, with the Chinese, the result was zero as the intercommunication was zero.
It's possible a portuguese speaker or spanish speaker, even if does not speak italian would understand the message. It's possible the business owner wanted to communicate only with italians. Anyway, there were zero communication between the store and the Chinese receptor.
Now imagine you send a letter or a birthday gift for a friend through post office. But you write the wrong address, or the friend is not living there and the receptor have no idea about who your friend is.
Once more, zero communication.
Imagine a 3rd example. This friend you sent the letter to is an old friend from high school. You loved this person secretly and 10 years later you decide to tell the friend about your love through that letter. But the friend is married now and the wife or husband is who receives the letter, read it and burn it! Did you really communicate your love for your friend?
That's all for now.

🇬🇧 Socrate and communication

I can say I always loved Socrate, the philosopher. Always = since I know something about him and his way of helping people to think.
I like his method so much the first time people asked me to talk about a theme in a buddhist meeting, a few days after I become a member of Soka Gakkai International, my way to do this was asking questions for others find their own conclusions.
I like his method so much I often use it in social media. Curiously, some people get angry with me when I ask something in social media. Probably, people who are used to one way communication. People who grew up obeying orders. People who had traditional media as TV and magazines as "masters", telling them what to do and what to buy. And each time these people get angry with me I love Socrate even more as he gave me wings to fly, to think by myself.
Socratic method is the best way to understand what others are saying as not everyone have a full comprehension on the resources used to communicate and the majority often make huge mistakes, in special through non verbal communication.
I'll write more on communication. Follow the blog or include it in your favourite feed reader to receive next posts.
