🇬🇧 Brazil - what to eat and drink in the south

Brazil is a big country and the variety of typical food travellers and nomads can find here is enormous. Brazil is much more than feijoada and caipirinha. This post is to talk about the food in the south region, which includes the states of Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and Paraná. This region offer typical food with very soft tastes compared to other regions. Some of these foods are found in restaurants in other regions too.
The south have less black population than the other regions of Brazil. Most people are descendants of italians and germans, but we have also people from Ukraine, Poland, Japan, Portugal, etc.
Even the "italian" food is not so italian, as it's influenced by italian gastronomy, adding some brazilian ingredients. More than that, in Brazil we use to eat everything together, not as italians do (first pasta, then meat and vegetables).
The most famous food in this region is the "churrasco gaúcho" from Rio Grande do Sul. Yes, you'll find churrasco everywhere in Brazil, but probably the one from Rio Grande do Sul will be a great experience.
In Paraná people eat churrasco with bread. I never tried nor found in local restaurants. For me this is called sandwich. By the way, we find sandwiches with pieces of picanha and other grilled meats added to cheese and other ingredients in various local bars and luncheonettes and this is good, in special if you're hungry, as they're big. In this state it's also possible to eat "barreado" which is bull meat with flour, almost as tasty as pasta without season or sauce. The best version I tried was served with big shrimps and this way the taste of the shrimps were outstanding.
Of course depending on the restaurant you go and the city you are, you'll find many other options, some of them more interesting than the typical local food. In other opportunities I'll tell you more about these local creative options to eat.
Oh! To drink, try local wine and, during the winter, "quentão", a hot drink also made with wine.
