Cold or hot? Which do you prefer?

There is an illusion that some places are hot all year round. It is an illusion because, for the tourist, it may be true, but for those who live in a place with summer temperatures close to 40° C, 25° C in winter are cold. A Danish tourist would find this winter very hot, but after living there for 2 or 3 years he would find it cold.

Likewise, a person born in a place where it is normally 40° C in the summer and going to visit Denmark will find the summer there too cold, but if she decides to live there, she will get used to those temperatures.

You can, as I did, go through places in between to get used to the cold or the heat, depending on your goal. The Dane who dreams of heat may live in southern Brazil before living in Rio de Janeiro or Recife. The Recife native who dreams of the cold can do the same before relocating to Denmark. The discomfort will perhaps be less (I cannot guarantee because I have never relocated from a very hot place to a very cold one).

Another point, important to note for those who want to live in Brazil, is that the standard in the country is not to have a structure for cold winter. There is the possibility of installing underfloor heating. There are electric heaters for sale in appliance stores. I was told that double glazed windows also exist, but they are not easy to find and finished properties usually have single glazed windows. É uma ilusão porque, para o turista isso pode ser verdade, mas para quem mora num lugar com temperaturas no verão próximas dos 40°C, os 25°C do inverno são frios. Um turista dinamarquês acharia esse inverno muito quente, mas depois dele morar ali por 2 ou 3 anos já acharia frio.

Da mesma forma, uma pessoa nascida num lugar onde normalmente faz 40°C no verão e vá visitar a Dinamarca vai achar o verão de lá frio demais, mas se resolver morar lá, vai se acostumar com aquelas temperaturas.

Você pode, como eu fiz, passar por lugares intermediários para acostumar com o frio ou com o calor, conforme seu objetivo. O dinamarquês que sonha com calor pode morar no sul do Brasil antes de morar no Rio de Janeiro ou em Recife. O recifense que sonha com o frio pode fazer o mesmo antes de mudar para a Dinamarca. O incômodo possivelmente vai ser menor (não posso garantir porque nunca me mudei de um lugar muito quente para um muito frio).

Um outro ponto, importante de observar para quem quer morar no Brasil, é que o padrão no país é não ter estrutura para o frio. Existe a possibilidade de instalar piso aquecido. Existem aquecedores elétricos à venda em lojas de eletrodomésticos. Já me falaram que janelas com vidros duplos também existem, mas não são fáceis de achar e os imóveis prontos geralmente têm janelas com vidros simples. Nas maiores lojas de produtos para construção de Curitiba, a capital mais fria do Brasil, não tem esse tipo de janela. Então... você se adapta ao frio à força.

Seja adaptando-se aos poucos ou indo direto para onde quer, a experiência é sempre válida. E é importante você viver a sua experiência em vez de ficar estagnado.

I have already taught, days ago, how to calculate the costs of moving to another city or country, and the points you should look for to know the cost for you in your new home. In an older text I also talked about the daily costs and how to calculate them. But I did not specify whether it is better to live alone, share an apartment, live in a pension or rent a room. And here I will talk about this, going beyond the financial aspect of the problem.

Financially, living alone is the most expensive option, no matter where you live. To assess which option is financially more profitable you can follow the tips in the text on the costs of relocating to another city or country as a basis.

There I said that some costs can be divided and others multiplied.

What costs can be shared when sharing an apartment? Those who have only one account and all the residents of the structure can enjoy, as rent, heating, electricity, gas, water, fixed internet, maintenance and renovation costs. In the apartments, some of these expenses are included in the condominium fee, paid monthly to the building manager or landlord (it depends on how it works in each country. I may have spelled the name of the fee wrong because I only know the name in Portuguese, I have translated it into other languages). Food, if you go shopping to the supermarket for all residents of the apartment and prepare food at home, can also be included in this calculation. The consumption of all this is certainly a bit higher in a house with two or more people, but it does not double having a second person in the house. And the economy is there.

The multiplied costs are those you move with your family, including small children, for example, and the bills are paid by one or two people, not everyone. Pet costs also multiply, although it is cheaper to buy a large package of food for three dogs, but vaccines and microchips are individual. Even health care if needed. Human health is also a cost multiplied, but in the case of sharing an apartment everyone pays their own.

What about the emotional price of each option? Are you willing to pay?

Emotional pricing includes things like sharing the property with someone with a very different personality than you. The friction that this can generate. Knowing how to deal with these situations, knowing your limits. Be prepared to leave if the property isn't yours. And it also has the positive side. Eu já ensinei, dias atrás, como calcular os custos de mudar para outra cidade ou país, e os pontos que você deve observar para saber o custo para você em seu novo lar. Em um texto mais antigo também falei dos custos do dia-a-dia e como calculá-los. Mas não detalhei se é melhor morar só, dividir apartamento, morar num pensionato ou alugar um quarto. E aqui vou falar disso, indo além do aspecto financeiro do problema.

Financeiramente, morar sozinho é a opção mais cara, independentemente de onde você vá morar. Para avaliar qual opção é financeiramente mais viável você pode seguir as dicas do texto sobre os custos de mudar para outra cidade ou país como base.

Que custos podem ser divididos quando você divide apartamento? Aqueles que têm apenas uma conta e todos os moradores do imóvel podem desfrutar, como aluguel, taxa de aquecimento, energia elétrica, gás, água, internet fixa, custos de manutenção e reformas. With my dog ​​I used a toothbrush that fit my finger, because I think it is less uncomfortable and causes a feeling that I am petting him. My fingers are thin. I do not recommend this toothbrush model for those who have thick fingers and cats or small dogs. Getting the animal used to toothbrushing is a process, and in this process a routine is built.

Then, I recommend getting the animal used to the toothbrush without toothpaste. That's because the toothbrush and toothpaste are two different stimuli and maybe the animal doesn't have problems with the toothbrush, but doesn't like the smell or taste of toothpaste. By getting your dog or cat used to the toothbrush without toothpaste, you only present a stimulus for him and you can evaluate in the next step if there is rejection of the toothpaste. At this stage of getting him used to the toothbrush, let him smell it, then start brushing carefully. Observe the animal's reactions to see if it is bothered. If you can't brush all his teeth on the first day, that's fine. Stop and repeat the process the next day, and the next, until all his teeth are brushed. I suggest offering other positive reinforcements for the animal, such as telling him he's getting prettier, petting him, etc. I don't see the point in giving a treat after brushing his teeth, so I recommend the love languages ​​of physical touch and words of affirmation (praise) and also using this moment as quality time.

The next step, you may have already guessed, is to get him used to the toothpaste. Let the animal sniff it before brushing its teeth. Do not, under any circumstances, use the same toothpaste you use for yourself. It is very important that it is suitable for your pet. Repeat the brushing process, now including the toothpaste.

Se não conseguir escovar todos os dentes no primeiro dia, tudo bem. Interrompa e repita o processo no dia seguinte, e no próximo, até escovar todos os dentes. Eu sugiro oferecer outros reforços positivos para o animal, como dizer que ele está ficando mais lindo, fazer carinho nele, etc. Não vejo sentido em dar petisco depois de escovar os dentes, por isso recomendo as linguagens do amor de toque físico e palavras de afirmação (elogios) e também usar esse momento como tempo de qualidade.

The answers to these questions depend on where you are going to live, the type of accommodation you choose and your lifestyle. And of course if you are planning to move in alone or with other people (family, boyfriend, friends, etc). In this text I will guide you on important points so that you can make a very accurate calculation of these costs. The text underlines the first month because, under the conditions described above, it is the month with the highest costs. Certainly the tips are also useful to get an idea of ​​your next monthly cost.

First, assuming you know the city you are going to live in, define the type of accommodation. Will you live in a rental property? Are you planning to buy a property? Do you prefer to live in a boarding house? Maybe share an apartment with other people or rent a room? Define it and research the costs of the type of housing chosen in the city where you will live. As respostas para essas questões dependem de onde você vai morar, do tipo de moradia escolhido e do seu estilo de vida. E, claro, de se você vai mudar sozinho ou não. Neste texto vou orientar sobre pontos importantes para que você faça um cálculo bastante preciso desses custos. O que o Palmeiras tem a ensinar a empreendedores e gestores de todo o mundo?

Antes do Abel Ferreira tornar-se técnico do Palmeiras (time brasileiro de futebol, atual vice-campeão mundial de clubes), comentei muitas vezes nas redes sociais sobre a fragilidade emocional do time quando levava um gol. Eu acompanho o Palmeiras desde os anos 90 e isso realmente aconteceu muitas vezes nesse período de quase trinta anos. Em muitos momentos o Palmeiras ganhava de virada. Mas raramente ganhava de goleada, seja lá contra que time for. Abel, no Palmeiras, corrigiu justamente o ponto mais fraco do time, que é a questão emocional. Eu sempre achei que clubes de futebol profissional deveriam ter psicólogos para ajudar os jogadores e treinadores a segurar a pressão. Por mais que os jogadores de times grandes geralmente ganhem bem o bastante para pagar psicólogos, nem sempre eles têm uma cultura familiar que acolha esse investimento. Por isso, na minha cabeça, os clubes deveriam oferecer isso aos times profissionais. Se oferecem ou não, não sei. 

No Brasil, cada cidadão se acha um técnico de futebol e quer dar palpite em tudo e a pressão de jogar num time grande pode ser imensa. Fazer parte da linha de frente de um grande clube não é para qualquer um. Por linha de frente me refiro às pessoas com um trabalho com mais visibilidade na mídia, principalmente os jogadores e treinadores. Uma vez, a funcionária de uma pet shop que frequento comentou que o sonho do filho dela é ser jogador profissional e ela faz de tudo para apoiar porque o garoto é bom, mas a cada seleção para os times locais ele fica ansioso e joga mal. Se na seleção para times que nem são fortes fora do estado ele fica assim, como ficaria se pudesse jogar na seleção brasileira por um dia? Essa força interna é fundamental. Mas não é a única coisa que fez o Palmeiras acumular tantos títulos no curto período que Abel Ferreira está treinando o time.

O que isso tem a ver com empreendedorismo e gestão?

No futebol existem os grandes times, os medianos, os pequenos, os muito pequenos, até aquele time de amigos que não praticam nenhum tipo de esporte, mas se reúnem esporadicamente para jogar bola. Nos negócios também existem empresas de variados portes e perfis.

O empreendedor é a pessoa que reconhece os próprios talentos e identifica oportunidades de contribuir com a sociedade através deles, fazendo algo diferente do que já existe no mercado. O preparo faz parte da vida do empreendedor. E isso tem várias interpretações possíveis e válidas, e outras tantas interpretações equivocadas. Como apenas quem tem talento e o reconhece é capaz de valorizar e reconhecer o talento dos outros, isso também interfere na cultura da empresa, na seleção de pessoal, na atração e retenção de mão de obra qualificada, etc. Abel é jovem, mas reconhece o próprio valor, as próprias qualidades, e busca construir um time de jovens talentos mentalmente fortes como ele.

A força mental, de não apenas não se abater ao sofrer gols, mas também buscar ganhar de goleada sempre que possível, não é a única mudança. Com ela veio um time que está comprometido em criar o melhor resultado possível. Isso, nas empresas, está relacionado ao branding 360°, serviço que sou pioneira mundial em oferecer.

Outro ponto interessante é que o líder (Abel) cria oportunidades para todo o elenco, não tem jogadores com posição garantida. E dá oportunidades aos jovens dos times juvenis da base para fazer parte do time principal. Um desses jogadores que veio dos times juvenis, Gabriel Menino, já foi campeão nas Olimpíadas de Tóquio em 2020 com a seleção brasileira, além de acumular prêmios e campeonatos jogando no Palmeiras. Um outro jogador do Palmeiras, Rony, sempre tenta fazer gols de bicicleta. Ele não quer apenas fazer gols, quer criar um espetáculo bonito de ver. Já virou piada entre torcedores que, a cada jogo, perguntam se ele já tentou fazer um gol de bicicleta naquele dia, mas tem qualidades que o tornaram artilheiro do time na Copa Libertadores da América, o torneio que define o representante das Américas para o mundial de clubes.

As empresas podem e devem dar oportunidades aos jovens, escolhendo aqueles com perfil que possa agregar valor à proposta da empresa e ao mesmo tempo tendo uma cultura empresarial que valorize verdadeiramente a diversidade e a criatividade para buscar sempre resultados extraordinários.

🇬🇧 Advantages of studying in another city or country

In this text I will talk about the advantages of studying in another city (away from home) or country (abroad), far from the family. Some of them can be exercised in your hometown, but not to the same extent. And they can all be practiced with professional experience elsewhere, but they're more interesting if you start early. Of course, the person's maturity influences how much each of the following points is put into practice. I lived with people who each vacation brought several suitcases full of dirty clothes for their mother to wash, even though they lived hundreds of miles away. I've always preferred to wash my clothes at my home (not my family's) or take them to the dry cleaners.  These behavioural differences affect how much you enjoy the experience of living away.

3. Exercise independence.
4. Getting to know different cultures.
5. Living with different people.
6. Develop adaptability.
7. Develop creativity.
8. Feel freer from the judgments of others.
9. Develop the ability to think about creative solutions to problems (and this helps a lot in your career).
10. Development of self-esteem.
11. Develop resource management skills.
12. Take advantage of more professional opportunities. If you are used to living away since college, it is much easier to take advantage of career opportunities elsewhere.

Neste texto vou falar de vantagens de estudar em outra cidade ou país, longe da família. Algumas delas podem ser exercitadas em sua cidade natal, mas não com a mesma intensidade. E todas podem ser exercitadas ao trabalhar fora, mas são mais interessantes se você começa cedo. Claro que a maturidade da pessoa influencia no quanto cada um dos pontos abaixo é colocado em prática. Já morei com pessoas que a cada feriado levavam várias malas cheias de roupas sujas para a mãe lavar, mesmo morando a centenas de quilômetros de distância. Eu sempre preferi lavar minhas roupas em minha casa (não na de minha família) ou levar numa lavanderia. Essas diferenças de comportamento afetam o quanto você aproveita da experiência de morar longe.

• Exercitar a independência.
• Conhecer culturas diferentes.
• Conviver com pessoas diferentes.
• Desenvolver a adaptabilidade.

🇬🇧 What to wear in Brazil in winter

If you have plans to live in Brazil or visit, this text has tips on how to choose what to wear in the country in the winter that is starting. Although winter only officially starts at the end of June, in Brazil the coldest time tends to be from May to August. The tips are also useful for Brazilians planning to travel or move to another city in the country.

Due to its continental dimensions, the climate is not the same throughout Brazil. Don't expect every place you visit to be hot and sunny. Temperatures throughout the country at this time are below 30°C. In the south, below 20°C (at least in capital cities and in the Serra Gaúcha), and you can experience some nights of negative temperatures in some places. Today in Curitiba the temperatures are identical to those in Stockholm. In the mid-season (spring and autumn) Curitiba's temperatures are generally similar to those of Stockholm and Helsinki, lessening the impact of the move for Swedish and Finnish visitors. Not that Curitiba is a tourist city. It is a beautiful city, possibly one of the best capitals in Brazil to live in, but in two days any tourist can see everything that is most interesting (from a tourism point of view) in the city.

I recommend that you research the temperatures of the cities you are going to visit or live in before traveling.

In most of Brazil it is hot all year round, but those who live in hot regions feel the winter because temperatures at this time drop a lot compared to summer temperatures. The experience of visiting and living in a place is different, I've talked about it before, and this is just one of the differences. So unless you come from a place where it's very cold year round, you'll need winter clothes like wool sweaters or leather coats and closed-toe shoes like boots. No need for down coats or snowshoes. But... wellies are a good choice for rainy days. As far as I remember, only in the northeast rains are common in winter, but there is always a risk of rain in other regions. If you come from a very cold place, try the local temperature to see if you need winter clothes. If you are coming as a tourist, I recommend bringing some winter items to avoid problems and I will explain this further later. If you are going to colder regions of the country, heavier coats are recommended, especially if you are coming from a warm place.

If you are going to buy knitwear, the less synthetic materials in the composition, the better. This is a point that makes me recommend to tourists to bring winter clothes. In most Brazilian stores the knits are of low quality, with a lot of synthetic material in the composition, they protect little from the cold and they look old very quickly.

Many Brazilians, when traveling south from the warmer regions, wear countless layers of clothing. It's a silly mistake that takes away mobility. Choosing the right pieces is possible to dress well with a maximum of 3 layers of clothes in southern Brazil and cold cities in other regions. In other parts of the country I recommend two layers only if there is a risk that you will get hot if you use only one.

🇧🇷 O que vestir no Brasil no inverno

Se você tem planos de morar no Brasil ou visitar, este texto tem dicas de como escolher o que vestir no país no inverno que está começando. Embora o inverno só comece oficialmente no fim de junho, no Brasil a época mais fria tende a ser de maio a agosto. As dicas também são úteis para brasileiros que planejem viajar ou mudar para outra cidade do país.

Por ter dimensões continentais, o clima não é o mesmo em todo o Brasil. Não espere que todos os lugares que você visitar sejam quentes e ensolarados. As temperaturas em todo o país nessa época estão abaixo dos 30° C. No sul, abaixo dos 20° C (ao menos nas capitais e na serra gaúcha), e você pode experimentar algumas noites de temperaturas negativas em alguns lugares. Hoje em Curitiba as temperaturas estão idênticas às de Estocolmo. Na meia estação (primavera e outono) as temperaturas de Curitiba geralmente são parecidas com as de Estocolmo e Helsinki, diminuindo o impacto da mudança para visitantes suecos e finlandeses. Não que Curitiba seja uma cidade turística. É uma cidade bonita, possivelmente uma das melhores capitais do Brasil para morar, mas em dois dias qualquer turista pode ver tudo de mais interessante (do ponto de vista do turismo) na cidade.

Recomendo que pesquise sobre as temperaturas das cidades que for visitar ou morar antes de viajar. 

Na maior parte do Brasil faz, sim, calor o ano todo, mas quem mora nas regiões quentes sente o inverno porque as temperaturas nessa época caem bastante em relação às temperaturas do verão. A experiência de visitar e morar num lugar é diferente, já falei disso antes, e esta é apenas uma das diferenças. Então, a menos que você venha de um lugar onde faz muito frio o ano todo, você vai precisar de roupas de inverno como suéteres de lã ou casacos de couro e calçados fechados, como botas. Não precisa de casacos de penas ou sapatos de neve. Mas... galochas são uma boa escolha para dias chuvosos. Até onde me lembro, apenas no nordeste chuvas são comuns no inverno, mas sempre existe o risco de chuva em outras regiões. Se você vem de um lugar muito frio, experimente a temperatura local para ver se precisa de roupas de inverno. Se vem como turista, recomendo trazer algumas peças de inverno para evitar problemas e explico isso melhor mais adiante. Se vai para regiões mais frias do país, casacos mais pesados são recomendáveis, principalmente se vem de um lugar quente.

Se for comprar roupas de tricô, quanto menos materiais sintéticos na composição, melhor. Este é um ponto que me faz recomendar ao turista que traga roupas de inverno. Na maioria das lojas brasileiras os tricôs são de baixa qualidade, com muito material sintético na composição, protegem pouco do frio e ficam com aspecto de velhos muito rápido.

Muitos brasileiros, quando viajam para o sul, vindos das regiões mais quentes, vestem inúmeras camadas de roupas. É um erro bobo e que tira a mobilidade. Escolhendo as peças certas é possível vestir-se bem com no máximo 3 camadas de roupas no sul do Brasil e cidades frias em outras regiões. Nas demais partes do país recomendo duas camadas apenas se houver risco de você ficar com calor se usar uma só.
