O Kreator a gente encontrou no aeroporto.

Por fim, o After Forever.

🇬🇧 Music and other preferences

In Brazil, although we have some great classical and opera composers such as Chiquinha Gonzaga, Carlos Gomes and Heitor Villa Lobos, there is no tradition linked to classical music or at least I was not part of it. I studied ballet, piano and flute in childhood, as I see it is normal for children from developed countries to study, but I was never encouraged to do so. At the time I lived in front of the music conservatory in Montes Claros and it is possible that children's curiosity led me to insist to be part of that universe, but the piano, which I really liked and like, I never had one at home to rehearse and  so I ended up giving up on the course. The others were due to lack of interest. I also studied acoustic guitar in my teens and I have already told in another text why I stopped.

For a long time, my musical references were the popular rhythms. Until I got to know metal and get closer to classical music. And when I went to live in capitals, opportunities arose to have contact with the opera and a whole universe that I had known little before.

Musically I listen to a lot more metal than any other type of music, but in a show it is very easy to identify myself. I remember that at the first Nightwish show I went to, a young man from Santa Catarina traveled to Porto Alegre and found me in line. We knew each other through Orkut. In the middle of the sea of people in black, I was wearing a cropped blue shirt cut diagonally. 😊 And it is rare that I adopt a look that comes out of black from head to toe. I like color, especially in Curitiba where the weather is almost always gray.

As I have worked with fashion all my life, my quality references for clothing also don't match the classic profile of metal fans. I have already walked through some stores that sell to this audience and I was horrified by the low quality. I often say that I am a “pink metalhead” because of how picky I am with clothes. So, I don't fit into labels, but until today I have lived well, making friends with people of very different profiles, with different affinities.

Nowadays I hear a lot of classical music, jazz, and almost nothing about pop. When selecting films I also try to analyze the script more, looking for films that add value to my life. Biography films appeal to me as much as books on this subject. I like individual physical exercises, gym, dog walking, cycling. And video games, because I can spend hours playing games and at the same time being close to my pets and enjoying the company of loved ones. Dancing also pleases me a lot.

Even if you don't share all my preferences, if you are looking for continuous improvement, like me, you will find something on this blog that has value, because my experiences are related to this tireless search for inner growth. But if you are content with little, you will be angry.

Me conhecia do Orkut.

Dançar também me agrada bastante.

🇬🇧 Meeting Epica

Some stories from our lives exist to be shared with our grandchildren and others. This looks like a movie, but I lived it a few years ago.

I went from Porto Alegre to Curitiba to see a show by a Dutch band called Epica with a friend. That was in 2005. On the bus, we met three guys who were going to the same show. We arrived in the city around 6 pm, we were going to the venue and the idea was to take the first bus the next morning.

When the show was over, with several hours left to catch the bus to go home, my friend asked me what to do. I suggested we could take a cab to follow the van that was transporting the group. She looked at me like I was crazy. 😁 When the van started to pull out of the parking lot, I saw a cab outside. Our opportunity to do exactly what I said. I talked to my friend, we took the taxi and asked to follow the van. The boys on the bus were with us. The van driver realised after a while that we were following him. And he tried to trick us. But the taxi driver was very good and told us “don't worry because there is only one hotel in that direction”. And we went to that hotel without ever losing sight of the van. We arrived together. We talked to the musicians, got autographs and took pictures. We stayed in the hotel hall all night. We slept on the couch. In the morning, we meet the musicians again. At night I had not seen the bassist. My hair was red at the time. In the morning, after he had coffee, he went into the hall, he saw me, we took a photo. The others also saw us and the singer Simone Simons, a beautiful woman, was scared and surprised to learn that we stayed there all night. She's one of the sweetest famous people I've ever had the chance to meet.

After a while, we left to take the bus and return home.

🇧🇷 Encontrando o Epica

Ficamos no hall do hotel a noite toda. Dormimos no sofá.

🇬🇧 Meeting artists - part 1

A lot of people are curious about what it's like to meet famous people and artists, so I'll tell you a little about my many experiences here. Today I will share experiences from when I lived in Uberlândia.

First, one night I was in a local pub with a friend and after hours of dancing we decided to sit down. She wanted to know the time and at that time (1999) I still didn't have a cell phone. I looked around and saw a male arm with a watch next to us. I called the man to ask the time and it was Fernando Pires, from Só para Contrariar, a pagode band from the city that was a national success at the time. He was friendly, but he joked the question wanting to know if it was time for us to sleep. Our contact was just that. I spoke to my friend again and we continued at the party for a few more hours.

Later, I had the opportunity to meet Shaman, a Brazilian metal band, at the time of the release of their first album, Ritual, with other members of the band's fan club in Belo Horizonte and São José do Rio Preto. I traveled to see the same show 3 times! The first time in Uberlândia. It was not exactly the same show because in Belo Horizonte it had the participation of Marcus Vianna (violinist) and in São José do Rio Preto the opening was made by Shadowside, which is a good national metal band. On none of the occasions did I speak to Ricardo Confessori. 🙁 But the Mariutti brothers are very friendly and André was very professional in assisting us.

Although I lived near the hotel where musicians from outside usually stayed in the city (the Parthenon, which today I don't know what it is), those who stayed there were usually musicians from pop bands and I'm not a super fan of any pop band. So my experiences with famous artists between 1999 and 2003 came down to these.

Follow the blog to know the stories from 2004 onwards. I've told you before, but only in Italian, the story of how I met Epica. I will tell you in English and Portuguese this week because it is one of my favorite stories.

Contribute to my music-related texts to be even better by paying me a coffee (https://ko-fi.com/nycka). Brands of musical keyboards (professional) are also welcome as sponsors. And follow me on social media, that this story of Epica, for example, I already told there, and that's why I ended up writing here only in Italian, but there were people who asked me what Simone Simons is like this week so the next text is  about this.

🇧🇷 Conhecendo artistas - Parte 1

🇬🇧 Travelling to colder places

How can those who live in a warm place prepare to live in a cold place or travel to a cold place?

Okay, it's summer in the northern hemisphere, and maybe that's why I should write about it today. And also for the warning of the possibility of snow in southern Brazil this week.

I was born in a city where people wear winter clothes when the ambient temperature is close to 20° C. In Curitiba, the coldest capital in Brazil, this is a normal summer temperature. Yes, my dear foreign readers, not all of Brazil is that tropical country that many imagine. Here in the south it is quite different. In almost everything, by the way.

First of all, the great advantage of moving to a colder place is that we solve the cold with proper clothing. In the case of Brazilians going to countries where snow is a normal phenomenon in winter, I recommend taking a few high quality winter pieces if you are going to move in winter. Just enough to leave the house without freezing to buy more suitable clothes at the best local stores. No fast fashion! Buying online from stores in the country where you will live several months before traveling can be another option if your trip is planned. I never tried until now. If you can change in another season, it is a wise choice because of the temperature adaptation issue. The temperatures in Curitiba in the spring and autumn are very similar to those in several European countries. Finnish summer does not differ much from here, but as in summer there we are in winter here, some difference would be noticed when changing in these seasons.  And even more difference would be noticed by those who live in regions where temperatures are above 20° C all year.

For cooler destinations without snow, good knitting and other good national coats will do the trick. In any case, it is forbidden to save on winter clothes if you really want to protect yourself and maintain elegance.

For those who travel for tourism or work and go in the winter, I suggest, if possible, arrive a few days before to have time to adapt to the cold. That's what I did when I left Uberlândia to visit Gramado for the first time. In fact, it was my only trip from a warm place to a cold place, other than just going back home. I have already traveled from Curitiba to hot cities like Recife, Fortaleza and Rio de Janeiro without problems of climatic adaptation. So I don't even write about adapting from a cold place to a warm place.

So, if traveling to cold places is in your plans, invest in quality winter clothing from brands in countries where winter is more severe. And if possible, take time to adapt to the climate. If you are going to study in Norway, for example, and classes start in September, arrive in early August or even earlier, to be reasonably accustomed when classes start. Advance is also recommended if the temperature difference is not huge, but it is bigger than you are used to.

If you like these tips, pay me a coffee (https://ko-fi.com/nycka).

Aqui no sul é bem diferente.

🇬🇧 10 reasons why women should wear short hair

In this text I will list reasons for women to wear short hair. And when I say short I mean cuts where most of the strands are above the line of the mouth. Nape exposed!

1. Short hair is a sign of strong personality (for women). No one who relies too much on the approval of others uses anything unusual in their circles.

2. Well cut short hair rejuvenates. Note that teenagers wear long hair to look like adults and those who wear short hair tend to look younger.

3. For those who have droopy eyes or expression marks that seem to pull the expression down the short cuts, especially the pixies (very short, as for men) helps to raise the look and the expression.

4. Short hair is hardly tangled. This considerably reduces the time spent on caring for them. When I had long hair it took me an hour in the bath to wash and untangle it. With them short in a few minutes I take a shower and wash my hair.

5. To keep your hair short you will have to cut it regularly and this greatly reduces damage to the hair. Nothing fights such damage better than a good cut.

6. You can invent the most weird combinations of colors, and if the process of painting and discoloring damages the strands, just scrape.

7. You discover that your beauty does not depend on hair.

8. You discover that your femininity does not depend on hair.

9. You realize that a man who is a man likes a woman, not hair. Those who are really worth it must like you with short, bald hair, anyway. I met women who lost their hair in cancer treatment and their self-esteem plummeted, because they had this idea that they needed long hair to be attractive. This left them more fragile during treatment. Limiting beliefs that we don't need to have.

10. For those who have hair that hardly holds hairstyles when they are long, the short ones allow countless variations of cuts, colors and hairstyles and you can change your look quickly.

Bonus: if you overcome all limiting beliefs and myths like points 2, 7, 8 and 9, your self-esteem will be really stronger.

Bonus 2: Short hair conveys more maturity and professionalism than long loose hair, which refers to the image of adolescents without compromise.

Bonus 3: short hair is much more elegant with winter clothes, scarves around the neck, bulky collars, etc.

🇬🇧 22 years as a nomad

This week I celebrated 22 years of the day I left my hometown to live in another city. It was on the distant 3rd of August 1998 that this happened. And as on any really important date, I look back and see how much has changed, how many prejudices I had and I no longer have, how much I learned, how much nonsense I also did and everything I learned from them.

I had the courage to go around without anyone as a reference, experiment, meet people, places, languages, cultures. And, in the last few years, getting to know myself deeply. And with that I realised a lot of mistakes and successes with much more clarity, which gives me a better direction for the future.

The traveler's experience is different from that of the nomad. The nomad seeks the place that his soul can call home. Or at least that's what I'm looking for today. The choices I made in the past were not so noble, but they also followed criteria of personal interest.

Is there a list of pros and cons? Yes! Pros and cons of my experience, but that can be useful for yours.

Pros:

    • The biggest advantage is precisely the opportunity to get to know myself better, to expose myself to new people and situations and to define what I like and what I don't like through these experiences and choices.
    • Then there is an organic increase in my social circles. It has nothing to do with social media, but with whom I know personally, who is one step closer to being a friend than someone who simply reads this blog or follows me on social media.
    • And there is also cultural enrichment, which is one of the main reasons that made me leave where I was born.
    • The freedom to manage my own life, to stumble and get it right according to my own choices.

It certainly has other advantages, but I have listed the four most important for me, the first of which includes many related ones, such as the acquisition or strengthening of characteristics such as adaptability, creativity, assertiveness, and many others.

Cons:

    • Perhaps the big cons is never having all your friends in one place. It's about having days that makes me want to just sit and listen to music with a specific person and this friend is hundreds or thousands of miles from where I am. But knowing that even among my friends at school, not all of them remain in the same city, perhaps this physical distance occurs anyway. Or even the distance because one person in the class got married and others are single and this change in focus also interferes with some friendships.
    • It takes work to organise things to change. Even having a relatively minimalist lifestyle. Even so, and aware of the job of moving with a cat, there is more change in my plans.
    • The choices of where and how to live. This yields a post with pros and cons for each option, but I don't think I'll write about it in the next few days. In this case here, I'm thinking only of the cons. 😂 Most of my experiences in this field were bad. But I survived.
    • Financial management. Leaving a life where I earned a minimum wage and had a house, food and laundry for one to manage my expenses, including rent, supermarket and everything, gave me a hell of a job. Today I know where I went wrong (better late than never), but even though I am very responsible with money, or precisely for that reason, I know that this point can also complicate other people's lives.

In the general balance, the positive points are more relevant than the negative ones.

🇬🇧 Representation and self esteem

I grew up with the feeling of not having anyone looking like me in the media. The only actress I thought I looked like in my childhood / adolescence I thought was ugly. I remember that as a teenager I wore jeans 42, and even though I was tall and thin I didn't have a model's body, because models wear the Brazilian size 38. I knew I was not fat, but "I didn't fit" to be a model. And despite having lived with low self-esteem, the cause was never what I saw in the media. From the moment I started to buy my clothes and build a style that was mine, the fact that there was no one like me in the media didn't bother me anymore. Even nowadays, shampoo advertisements don't have women with short hair, and I don't want to boycott them all.
It took me a few years to feel beautiful, but somehow, having a style authentically mine was something that made me more confident. For this reason, and because I see so many people who do not value their own aspect, who seek improvement in plastic surgery and other changes that go far from self-knowledge work, I still think it is important to work with personal style.
People talk about standards of beauty, but what are those standards? I see advertising campaigns, movies, etc. and I don't see any pattern among beautiful people. There are beautiful people with white, black, yellow skin; of the most varied ages and heights; with eyes of the most varied colours, of varied physical structures. If you see a pattern of beauty comment here what pattern you see, and describe your appearance.
I am sure that anyone who decides to use my style services can find themselves more beautiful than they imagined. But there is no point in wanting to become a Kim Kardashian or Bradley Cooper clone that I don't work with imitation. If you are interested in valuing your beauty, just schedule your appointment using the button available in the sidebar. If you are viewing the mobile version of the blog, switch to the web version to view. The consultancy can be online.
There is no standard of beauty, you are the one who is taking care of your appearance in a wrong way and comparing yourself too much with others, seeking outside what can only be found inside. There is no beauty in imitation, no matter how stunning the model that someone imitates. There is only real beauty in authenticity.

🇧🇷 Representatividade e autoestima
