After living in Uberlândia, I went to live in Porto Alegre, capital of Rio Grande do Sul. This text has tips about the city and some of my experiences there. I lived in Porto Alegre between the beginning of 2004 and the end of 2007. During that time I lived in rented rooms, in Cidade Baixa and in Menino Deus neighborhood. As I was studying at night and some days I couldn't organize to go to the supermarket, I started ordering restaurant food when I got home from class. I soon realized that restaurant prices were not very different from the cost that I would have to make the same dish by buying the ingredients at the supermarket and I started doing this regularly. I went to metal shows often, but I had almost no other forms of leisure, so I will say little about the topic. Depois de viver em Uberlândia, fui morar em Porto Alegre, capital do Rio Grande do Sul. Este texto tem dicas sobre a cidade e algumas de minhas experiências lá. Vivi em Porto Alegre entre o início de 2004 e o fim de 2007. Durante esse tempo eu morei em quartos alugados, na Cidade Baixa e no bairro Menino Deus. Como eu estudava à noite e em alguns dias não conseguia me organizar para ir ao supermercado, comecei a pedir comida de restaurante quando chegava da aula. Logo percebi que os preços dos restaurantes não era muito diferente do custo que eu teria para fazer o mesmo prato comprando os ingredientes no supermercado e passei a fazer isso regularmente. Ia a shows de metal com frequência, mas quase não tinha outras formas de lazer, então vou falar pouco do tema. Today I’m going to give tips to anyone thinking of living in Montes Claros, the city where I was born. Montes Claros is the largest city in the north of Minas Gerais and attracts students and professionals from all over the region, from southern Bahia and also many foreigners. Montes Claros è la città più grande del nord di Minas Gerais e attira studenti e professionisti da tutta la regione, dal sud della Bahia e anche molti stranieri. Hoje vou dar dicas para quem pensa em morar em Montes Claros, a cidade onde nasci. Montes Claros é a maior cidade do norte de Minas Gerais e atrai estudantes e profissionais de toda a região, do sul da Bahia e também muitos estrangeiros. As pessoas das classes sociais mais altas estudam inglês desde a infância, ao menos aquelas que hoje têm quarenta anos ou menos, então boa parte das pessoas de classe alta consegue comunicar-se bem em inglês. O italiano, por outro lado, eu não conheço nenhuma escola na cidade que ensine. Se você administra um curso de idiomas em Montes Claros e oferece cursos de italiano ou outras línguas além do inglês e espanhol, me envie um email. In the previous text I commented that I only traveled by plane in 2005, even though I left my hometown in 1998. Now I will tell you how that first experience was. I lived in Porto Alegre and was a leader in the Buddhist organization that I belong to. An event for leaders appeared in São Paulo and I was one of the 5 people from all over the state that got a place for the event. As there were only 5 places, the trip would be by plane. At that time - late 2005 - I had already been to the city's airport many times to see international bands arriving to do shows. But the boarding part I had no idea what it was like.
