🇬🇧 The importance of taking care of your personal image as a whole

I'm Nycka. In this text I want to talk about the importance of taking care of your personal image as a whole and the difference it makes to have my guidance on the impact you cause through your appearance. I'm a stylist serving clients from all over the world in English, Portuguese and Italian, and I work with personal image as a non-verbal communication tool.

There are professionals to take care of the image in parts, just as there are professionals to take care of health in parts. You might see a cardiologist for heart problems, a dermatologist for skin problems, an allergist for allergies, and so on. A specialist doctor doesn't know much about other specialties. A cardiologist doesn't understand much about allergies and vice versa. You can consult a general practitioner if you are unsure about which specialist to consult. In the Brazilian public health system, the general practitioner is mandatory. You don't go to a specialist without going through the generalist or nursing care. I know that in some other countries it is also like this. But as there are countries where there is not even public health care, I better explain my reference.

In the case of personal image issues, you can consult a dentist, a plastic surgeon, a hairdresser, a make-up artist, but all of them will have a limited view in relation to the image. And probably none of them perceive the image as a non-verbal communication tool, as I do. As far as I know, no other stylist offers this approach. My interests beyond the professional field ended up making me realise the importance of this. You can also do any skincare routine, go for a manicure, and other partial image care, and still, only my guidance as a stylist will help you convey an image that makes who you are shine.

A hairdresser, for example, takes care of styling your hair and some are very good at it. But hair alone does not create a strong and coherent personal style. On the internet you choose which photos to show and even then, in most cases, to show your hair your face appears. And in many cases, your outfit and accessories show up too. Off the internet, people see you from head to toe. The hairdresser can have done a magnificent job and still your overall image is weak, vulgar, disconnected from how you see yourself. That is, causing an impact on others that is different from what you want.

I know that the impact caused also depends on the profile of the viewer. Mediocre people do not value exclusive clothes and it is common for them to find it ugly or judge those who wear it as arrogant. Does it matter, for us, the opinion of mediocre people about our appearance? Not for me. My appearance is a filter. I managed a page about women with short hair on Facebook and many women commented that they wanted to wear short hair, but read in (Brazilian) magazines that men prefer women with long hair. I always said that nobody there needed the majority of men, and those who like a woman as she is, as she thinks she is beautiful, were the ones that interested us. The page also had a number of male followers. My job as a stylist is to guide my clients to have an image that is also a filter, attracting people who like who they are, valuing their best qualities and physical appearance, with the best that the fashion market has to offer. Because I believe that nobody has to wear masks, pretend to be different, to be happy and successful. But being authentic in an intelligent way requires courage and a lot of quality information through expert guidance.

To hire my work, follow the instructions on the “Services available” page.
