This text contains an Australian recipe called Vanilla Slice. To sweeten your week. Try doing this at home.
Ingredients:
- 2 sheets of frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 1 cup of brown sugar
- 1 cup of cornmeal
- 1/2 cup of powdered custard
- 1 litre of milk
- 60 grams of butter
- 2 egg yolks
- 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
Vanilla topping
- 2 ½ cups of pure powdered sugar
- 50 ml of milk
- Grated seeds from ½ vanilla bean or ½ teaspoon of vanilla bean paste
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven very hot, 220 ° C. Lightly grease and line two 20 x 30 cm trays with baking paper.
- Grease and flour the 2 trays. Arrange the sheets of dough on the baking trays. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until golden brown. Gently roll out the dough with your hands. Trim the dough to cover the bottom of the prepared pan.
- In a bowl, mix the sugar, cornmeal and custard powder. Add some milk to form a smooth paste. Place the pasta in a large saucepan with the remaining milk and mix until smooth.
- Add the butter and bring to the boil. Lower the heat and cook, stirring, for 5 minutes or until the mixture is thick and smooth. Remove from the heat. Add the egg yolks and vanilla. Pour on the prepared pastry. Cover with the remaining sheet of puff pastry.
- For the vanilla topping, mix the ingredients in a bowl until smooth, adding a little water to dilute. Cover the dough with this mixture.
- Cool the candies for a few hours, cut into squares and serve.
