🇬🇧 Desserts: Firnee (Afghanistan)

This is the first in a series of desserts from around the world. If you like trying new flavours, follow my social profiles to not miss any recipes.

I start with a very easy recipe from Afghanistan called Firnee. In Brazil, we usually eat this type of dish for breakfast or coffee break.

Ingredients:

6 cups of whole milk

5 tablespoons of cornstarch

1½ cup of sugar

½ teaspoon of freshly ground cardamom

1 teaspoon of rose water (optional)

A handful of almonds, chopped pistachios or grated coconut.

Method:

Pour 1 cup of milk into a small bowl, add the cornstarch and mix well until smooth.

Pour the rest of the milk into a non-stick pan, combining the sugar and cardamom (and rose water, if desired) as it cooks over medium heat.

Before it starts to boil, slowly add the milk and cornstarch mixture to the pan, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Keep stirring until the mixture thickens.

Remove the pan from the heat and pour it into a large, shallow bowl. Allow to cool to room temperature and refrigerate for about 1 or 2 hours.

Then, sprinkle your Firnee with sliced almonds, pistachios or grated coconut and serve!

I hope you like it! If you decide to try it, tag me on social so I can see how yours turned out.
