🇬🇧 Music and my work

I remember when I started using the Internet in the late 90's I usually asked people I met in the virtual world what kind of music they liked. Music is something that has always interested me. Brazilians often said they were "eclectic". When I asked them to explain, give examples of artists they liked, ALL the artists they mentioned came from common rhythms in Brazilian radios of the time, such as axé, pagode, sertanejo (brazilian country music) and pop rock. None of these "eclectic" people listened to classical music, jazz, bossa nova or any foreign artist who did not have music on soap opera soundtracks. Nowadays this would be the equivalent of having your musical universe limited to tiktok hits and soundtracks from soap operas and series. Perhaps narrower than that.

In the Brazilian market, having the songs on the soap opera soundtrack was a golden route to musical success.

At that time I already had references that were different from those of most people. I knew Apocalyptica on their first album. I started listening to Helloween that same period, and I expanded my knowledge of the Iron Maiden and Metallica discography. After learning how to use the Internet, I discovered many bands, most of them unknown in Brazil. Napster and MySpace have been great sources of musical breakthroughs. On my LinkedIn profile you can see a link to an interview I did with a Finnish band that I discovered on MySpace, and it was one of my first posts on my first blog, in 2008, when I was working as a personal stylist.

Music is strongly linked to my paths of knowledge of myself. While my favourite musical styles have changed little since 1998, the profile of the artists and music I listen to most often changes. And music also has its influence on my more artistic activities, such as photography.

What I see when people call themselves eclectic but listen to nothing unusual is a universe of very limited references. I respect them, but it is often difficult for me to maintain a dialogue with such people. For these and other reasons I have professionally exercised my artistic and creative skills more than others, because those who really appreciate it have more similarities with me, and a wider universe of references, to have an open and curious mind. The more I know myself, the less I want to live with someone who doesn't broaden his horizons. And as I am constantly improving, the services I offer may change as well.
