If you, like me, love dogs and are considering moving to another country and getting your dog or acquiring one in your new home, be aware that some countries charge a fee to have a dog. Today I'm going to talk about one of them, the Netherlands. In some cities this tax is no longer charged. Below I list the provincial capitals of the country, the most populous city in each province when it is not the capital and the amount of the tax for owners of only one dog in each city in 2022. The values are different for those with two or more dogs and for breeders. In 2023 these prices can change. Cities that do not charge the tax in the list below are exempt from it regardless of how many dogs you have.

Some cities have specific areas where you can walk your dog off the leash - outside of these, a leash is mandatory. It is also mandatory to collect the faeces of the animal, among other rules. Violation of local regulations on the movement of dogs in public areas may result in a penalty.
