🇬🇧 How to live in Thailand

Thailand is a desired touristic destination. But have you thought about living there? I researched how to do it and the path is open to highly qualified professionals, entrepreneurs and investors interested in the target industries in the country through SMART Visa. Below is the information I found about it.

The country's target industries are:

    • Next generation automotive industry.
    • Medical, wellness and luxury tourism.
    • Agriculture and biotechnology.
    • Aviation and logistics.
    • Biofuels and biochemicals.
    • Digital.
    • Medical hubs.
    • Smart electronics.
    • Food for the future.
    • Automation and robotics.
    • Alternative Dispute Resolution.
    • Development of human resources in science and technology.
    • Environmental management and renewable energy.

HOW TO REQUEST

Candidates for SMART Visa must be qualified in accordance with criteria specified by the Investment Council's office. Your qualifications will be verified by relevant agencies. Once technical and non-technical endorsements are obtained, the SMART Visa unit will then issue a qualifying endorsement letter which the applicant will bring to Royal Thai Embassies or Royal Consulates (if residing abroad) or the Immigration Department in One Stop Center for visas and work permits or at the CEE Labor Administration Center in Chonburi to apply for SMART Visa.

Procedures for requesting endorsement of qualification and issuing SMART VISA

  1. Sign up for the SMART Visa eligibility online endorsement form at https://smart-visa.boi.go.th and activate an account online via a confirmation email.
  2. Fill out an application form for the type of SMART Visa you want to apply (T, I, E, S and O if any) and make sure you have a PDF version of the required documents you will need to upload and submit after the application form registration and the necessary documents to be uploaded. By completing the online application, you confirm that you have read, understood and accepted the eligibility endorsement requirements.
  3. Within 30 working days of receiving the completed documents, OSS will notify the applicant, Immigration, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the relevant agencies of the result of the qualifying endorsement application.
  4. The eligible applicant may then proceed with the application for SMART Visa issuance at one of the locations below, within 60 days of the date of issuance of the letter of endorsement, which will be used as one of the supporting documents for the application. The processing fee is 10,000 Baht per year for visa permission (cash only). Issue locations:
