🇬🇧 Where beauty is

Do you consider yourself a beautiful person? What similarities do you see between yourself and famous people you think are beautiful? What about between you and famous people considered beautiful by most people, if that is different from your beauty references?

It is very easy for those who have self-esteem problems to see the differences between their own appearance and that of people considered beautiful. Even so, aesthetic procedures and plastic surgeries are very common nowadays. Some people think that to be beautiful they need to have the same nose as a celebrity considered beautiful, or the same haircut, the same body type, etc. And they forget to note that there are beautiful celebrities with very different profiles.  That's why I think it's important to reflect on the similarities.

About a year ago I asked on Quora in Portuguese about celebrities who aged well, apparently without cosmetic procedures.  I focused on women because as they age normally they are judged more for that than men. When it comes to female beauty, it is common to mention women in their 20s or 30s. When it comes to male beauty, it is common to mention men in their 40s and older. Returning to my question on Quora, someone answered mentioning actress Helen Mirren and posted pictures of her young and her today. I was very surprised because today, with wrinkles and grey hair, she is more beautiful than when she was younger. Another actress that I think is beautiful is Judi Dench.

If you think celebrity beauty is pure Photoshop, fully edited, as a fashion professional who has seen famous models up close and also as a photographer I assure you that the reality is that much of the beauty of these people on magazine covers is real. Whoever has a good style consultant almost always gets results worthy of magazine covers. And a good photographer works wonders knowing how to position the subject and use light and shadows to create the desired effects.

Beauty is very much related to self-image. Those who find it difficult to consider themselves beautiful will tend to consider beautiful people who are very different from themselves. Someone who is not very lucky in love might use this to justify their failure as if only looks count in relationships.

The way you see yourself also has an impact on your consumer choices and choices of what to wear, what to do with your hair, etc. Those who prefer cheap clothes, which I have already proved are more expensive in the long term in a text about cost-benefit, is usually because they do not consider themselves deserving of something better or because the person has no style and wants to follow fashion with clothes that are almost disposables to feel less stupid. But your image reveals things about you that most people, and you’re probably included among them, can't control. And without proper support, it's common for your image to speak ill of you.

A woman who believes that women must have long hair to be feminine will have a hard time dealing with her image if she develops alopecia or has cancer and loses her hair during treatment.

Is your worldview and your view of what beauty is positive? Your mid-term and long-term choices demonstrate the reality of your mind.
