Today is the day of a Dutch recipe. A side dish to add colour to your meals and that even those who do not have much cooking experience can prepare. Red cabbage with apple.
Ingredients (for 4 people)
1 kg of apples
Sugar to taste
1 red cabbage
1 onion (cut into rings)
3 tablespoons of vinegar
Enough butter to sauté (if you're vegan, look for a butter alternative)
250ml of water
Method of preparation:
- Remove the outer leaves of the red cabbage and cut it into 4 quarters with a large knife. Remove the central ribs and cut the red cabbage further into slices. Cut the onion into rings. Peel the apples, core them and cut them into small pieces.
- Sauté the onion rings in butter (fry until the onions are golden brown, without burning). Add the red cabbage, vinegar, sugar and water.
- Add the apple pieces to the red cabbage. Cook with the lid on for 30-40 minutes over low heat, until the red cabbage is tender. Stir regularly.
Nycka's Note: An alternative you can try at home is caramelising onions. The dish will have a sweeter flavour, which can be interesting to contrast with the meat or the main dish, depending on what you are going to serve.
