🇬🇧 How to sleep better during the winter

Some options for sleeping well on cold nights:

  • Have a good heater, suitable for the size of your room.
  • Have carpeted floors in the bedroom or wooden floors with rugs to warm the room. Avoid tiled floors (such as ceramic, stone, burnt concrete, etc.). Heated floors are also an option.
  • Have dogs and / or cats. If you let them sleep in your bed it helps a lot to feel more comfortable in the winter. I have already had nights of negative temperatures in Curitiba and with them the cold was very bearable. Of course, this only applies if you like animals and you feel comfortable doing it. The purring of cats also helps you sleep better.
  • Use many blankets and duvets. For me, usually a maximum of 3 is enough (in Curitiba) without turning on the stove, but each one knows how much the cold annoys. Put underneath, the one which will be in direct contact with your body, covering you, one of a warmer material, such as wool or cotton. A microfiber blanket, for example, has a cool touch and although it heats up, the first few minutes in bed can be a little uncomfortable due to the cold feeling of the blanket, so it's best to have a material that doesn't give that first impact  cold.
  • It seems to me that the room that gets the sun in the afternoon tends to be warmer at night than the one that doesn't get the sun at that time. So when choosing where to live if you go to a place with cold winter, it is worth looking at this. Possibly in Finland this tip make no difference as most of the time is dark during the winter.
  • Before going to sleep, drinking tea, hot chocolate and soups helps keep the body warm.

Winter is starting in the southern hemisphere. In Curitiba there are nights with temperatures below 5 ° C this week. For those who live in the Northern Hemisphere or intend to go there, it is worth thinking about the tips for the coming winter.
